Wings (sometimes called Paul McCartney and Wings) were an English rock band who were active from 1971 until 1981, and formed in London. The core members were Paul McCartney on vocals and bass, Paul’s wife Linda McCartney on keyboards, and Denny Laine on guitar and vocals. The band went through three lead guitarists and four drummers - the core trio of Linda, Paul and Denny remained intact throughout the existence of the group.

The first two albums made by the band - ‘Wild Life’ (1971) and ‘Red Rose Speedway’ (1973) were viewed as artistic disappointments besides Paul’s work with the Beatles. After the band released the James Bond film track ‘Live and Let Die’, two members by the names of McCullough and Seiwell resigned from the band. The McCartneys and Laine then released in 1973 ‘Band on the Run’. This was a commercial success that spawned two top-ten singles. 

During the ‘Back To The Egg’ tour (an album which underperformed and received negative reviews), Paul was arrested in Japan due to possession of cannabis, which put the band on hold. After a US number one, which was a live-recorded version of ‘Coming Up’(1980), Wings disbanded in 1981 after Laine departed.
