more hannibal costume interpretation because i am INSUFFERABLE!!
in mizumono, when will sheds his coat to cover alana (someone he formerly had a romantic interest in) and enter's hannibal's house, he is in his true form. no layers!! this man wore loads of layers throughout the show, which is obviously an indication that he hides his true self from people. (which is why i also love their hannibal and will's first meeting, he's wearing no layers, just a blue shirt. and in their second meeting, in a more intimate setting, he's very vulnerable because he just wearing an undershirt and boxers. could be foreshadowing to the fact hannibal is going to strip will off his "person suit").
so by using his coat, aka metaphorically his person suit, and covering alana with it, he is letting his true form out, and by concealing her, he is trying to let go of his old form (i firmly believe he only had any "romantic" interest in alana because he wanted to feel a sense of normalcy).
and hannibal is covered in blood, also not wearing any suits, aka metaphorically his person suit (again). and don't tell me it was because of the fight sequence with jack. that man knows how to fight, suit or not (recall the fight with tobias). and hannibal is wearing a white shirt stained with blood. will is wearing a dark shirt. which could be an indication that hannibal's true form someone who is pure, who was only tainted because of his childhood trauma (aka the stained blood). and will wears a dark shirt, which means his true form is someone who is not so "pure", and his violent tendencies is simply who he is.
this is the first time they witness each other's true self.
thank you for coming to my ted talk.
