All Night
Arashi gave a light laugh. âPhilippe mentioned roughing him up too, but it was mostly if he hurt me.â The boy kept the smile on his face as he shook his head lightly, eyes dropping down to look at his tea. At the story of the witch being turned he looked up at the man, biting his bottom lip hard. âIâm so very sorry about thatâŚdark magic isnât any good to dabble in..â Since the possession heâd suffered he hadnât practiced any of his own dark magic abilities. The necromance ability had been what drew the demon to him, so heâd put a hold on all that. âYou saved his life though. I think you should be proud of being able to do that.â He reached out to gently touch Patrickâs hand, fingers softly caressing the top.
Patrick supposed that the rest of his existence was going to be a constant attempt at not reacting at that name. He skipped over that part, replaying instead his words about Noah. That was a sorrow that was easier to rehash because it had contained some hope of a happy ending. Patrick nodded, viewing Arashiâs fingers against his hand, but not really feeling the action. âThank you...though Iâm not sure i saved him anything in the end. Some say this type of life is a curse not a blessing.â

Focused and tireless, she hit the sandbag again and again. Her mind was a dark place and there was nothing she could do but follow a web of thoughts through and past the darkness. It was a five minute journey and, more often than not, she had to climb over high walls that kept her stuck in one place for much longer than sheâd have liked.
Carmenâs fists landed on the sandbag, distracted, but relentless, and she knew she was hurting herself, but she didnât mind it. She had to get through that terrible mind place and if she stopped then, she would get stuck in it for another day. She couldnât do with another day in the same dark spot and she wouldnât.
Fists bruised and muscles aching, begging for a break, Carmen continued with her merciless punching. Sweat seeped through the tank she wore and dripped down her temples. The young woman didnât let anything distract her until a man who stood not far from her opened his mouth to speak to her. She threw him a look, wondering what he wanted.Â
âIâm warning you right nowâ, she started, her accent still thick despite the past eight years she spent in the country, âif you try to hit on me, youâll be the second sandbag Iâm splitting today.â
Her immediate aggression took Patrick back for a moment. It was true that his eyes had took in her curves for a brief moment and heâd logically recognized that she was an attractive woman, but he hadnât thought any sort of sleazy intention had been present in his voice. He didnât mean to laugh, hoped she didnât try to hit him for it...cause really that would probably end up hurting her more than him. But she was so unbelievably off base.
âThat was not my intention at all,â he explained, hands up and palms out in a submissive stance. âNot that you are not worthy of hitting on...but thatâs not really my style...hitting on people at the gym. A bar maybe...but this place...Iâm classier than that.â A finger extended to point at the sand bag. âYouâre hogging the bag...I mean due respect if youâve got a lot of venting to do...but I did want to have a turn before you break it.â

All Night
âIt pays good. I do a lot of filing and make a ton of coffee runs.â He smiled as he looked up at the other male, watching him as he lifted his mug to sip at his tea. âYou have another fledgling?â He turned his head to the side as he looked at the man sitting across from him. âWell. I do hope that you stay.â He sipped his tea again, enjoying the sweet taste of the tea.
âYou let me know if he overworks you and Iâll rough him up a bit,â Patrick teased with a grin. His face sobered slightly and he nodded. âYes. His name is Noah. It was...he was a friend. A witch. He dabbled in too much dark magic and ended up opening a door that let something eat him from the inside out. I was trying to help him...when I couldnât.â He gave a sigh, palms outturned. âIâd just left Russia...and i wasnât in the best state of mind to begin with. I couldnât stand the thought of losing the one friend it felt like I had left so...in a moment of grief and panic I turned him.â Running a hand through lose strands of hair, the vampire sighed. âI am not particularly proud of myself.â
Heâd always been a man that liked to be busy, learn trades, excel at self sufficiency. But even with his night vision there were some tasks that werenât fitting for darkness, that simply didnât make sense. The house he was renting was in fairly decent shape for his age, but the fencing needed work. One hand in his pocket, the other hoisting a mallet hammer against his shoulder, Patrick whistled lightly till a body on the other side of the fence caught his eyes. âYou look lost,â he called out softly. âOr perhaps youâre househunting...in which case Iâm afraid to say that this one is occupied.â
Entertaining Simeon
[Timeline: 28th August 2016, Sunday, 5:10pm, dark corner of a coffee shop with preferred entry and exit for vampires during daylight hours]
Simeon was beginning to feel like a caged beast - First their were the delays with work and the time spent with Philippe at the palace and his home. Something about a possession and a dead cat. Then there was the storm. Now his workout sessions had also been put on hold with his friendâs or would he be an acquaintance, departure into the great swamp lands outside of Salt Creek. He was bored and currently trapped inside by the bright sun and blue skies. He tossed the paper on the table before him, âDoesnât anything interesting ever happen in this town?â
He remembered the man...Simeon...from Russia. The one that Philippe boxed. It was curious to see him here, and yet, Patrick knew how hard it was to walk away from Ballard, even after heâd hurt you. Simeon was probably like everyone else...helpless. Moving to sit down beside the vampire, not sure if heâd be remembered in turn, Patrick gave a small chuckle. âYou mean aside from the murdering of local citizens? Thatâs as interesting as it gets isnât it?â He tapped at the paper, the front page splashed with speculation. âI had you pegged as the type that made interesting things happen, not the type that sat around waiting for them to happen.â

@ruborosa:
Normally Patrick preferred to work out on his own. But lately the home gym in his basement only served as a cage that trapped him in his own thoughts. Noise soothed him, feeling small in a room full of people helped him let go. There was the whir of treadmills going, the sound of weights clinking, and to his left the pounding of fists against a punching bag.
His smooth stride didnât stop as he let go of the treadmill to check his watch and then eye the brunette at the punching bag. Heâd been waiting for a turn for a good half hour now, and it seemed like the girl was nowhere near losing steam. Patrick found her intriguing to watch. When you lived long enough you could spot the difference between the people who trained for muscle, and the people who trained for survival, for the purpose of a fight.
Gaze shifted down to his treadmill as the timer beeped his completion. He could go again but...eyes flickered over to the girl. Instead he toweled lightly at his forehead and wiped down the machine, moving to stand a safe distance to the side of the brunette, arms crossed lightly against his chest. âDid that bag do something to upset you? You seem utterly determined to split it at the seams...and thatâs going to leave a lot of work for the poor part time teenagers that do the grunt work here.â

knowledge is... || patrick + aurelia
âThis is true. Â But it wouldnât be such a mystery if they allowed their minds to open a little bit.â Â Aurelia tilted her head when he laughed, though she could tell there was nothing malicious about it. Â âBut why? Â They get to learn. Â There is nothing that they canât do in school, especially in a college, so I hear. Â They have classes on everything one could possibly be interested in. Â Besides magic.â Â She realized that she sounded slightly petulant, like a child who wasnât being given the exact answer that she wanted. Â She coughed in embarrassment.
Aurelia pointed to the list. Â âIt sounds like a good subject for a vampire to teach, then. Â All due respect. Â Is your class on here?â Â She liked art just as much as the next person, but she didnât know much apart from what looked pretty. Â âI didnât know that art was particularly important to history. Â I mean, I knew, but I didnât know, da? Â The hows or whys. Â Just that it was.â Â Aurelia mussed her already wild hair self-consciously. Â âDoes that sound stupid?â
âYouâre quite right...but Iâve lived long enough to know the chances of that are minimal.â He chuckled at her impassioned answer. It was clear she was bright, not afraid to defend an opinion. And Patrick admired that. âGrass is greener. If youâd grown up in schools like this all your life youâd probable be blaise about them too.â
He nodded, finger moving across the board to rest on his course information. âThis is me. One hour long lecture at 11pm, four nights a week. And another at 2am three nights a week.â Smiling kindly, Patrick shook his head. âThat doesnât sound stupid at all. There are many layers to knowledge, and being able to identify a hole in yours shows introspective awareness and marked intelligence.â
All Night
Arashi watched as Patrick paid for their order, his ash eyes moving up after a moment to rest on the vampireâs face, giving him a soft smile as they received the drinks. âThank you,â he said softly before moving to take a seat. âIâm sure. Everything gets better with time. And yes. I have a job. Easy little thing. Iâm an assistant to this lawyer I met in town.â At the mention of him not staying the boy bit his bottom lip lightly. âIâm sorry to hear that. I would have really loved seeing you about here.â
âAssistant to a lawyer? I hope it pays well,â he murmured with interest. From what he knew those jobs could be high maintenance and demanding, but then...Arashi had always had an oddly calming atmosphere about him. He was adaptable, and Patrick fully believed the witch would excel at any task he put his mind to. Shrugging off the pout in his companionâs tone he shrugged. âWeâll see how it goes. My fledgling seems to like it here, and I am hesitant to uproot him again so soon. I have to weigh some things first before I decide.â
