When better food and other basic rights are brought up for prisoners and people are like “NO LET THE SICK CRIMINALS SUFFER” do they not realize most people in prison are there for being unable to pay a bill on time, having a scrap of marijuana in their car or just making some overzealous officer feel insulted? We have the biggest prison population IN THE WORLD yet we have a below-average rate of actual violent crime. We have millions of sweet, good, well meaning people being legally tortured, fed rotting garbage and robbed of years of their lifespan for mistakes that didn’t actually hurt anybody. We have not progressed one day from just hurling people in dungeons for looking at the king wrong and almost anybody could be next except the wealthy.

If you are poor and struggling and get caught up in the system you’re screwed. People then think that prisoners are less than human. When did we lose our compassion for our fellow human beings.
