Agott ⥠Witch Hat Atelier - Episode 02
PSA for anyone in Florida who likes animals and can reasonably access nearby beaches: Florida Audubon and the Florida Shorebird Alliance are looking for volunteers to sign up for timeslots as shorebird stewards! As a shorebird steward, you can take shifts monitoring the nesting areas of shorebirds like terns and plovers to make sure that random beachgoers don't disturb the nests (these areas are generally roped off) or accidentally harm the chicks.
So you would get to hang out on a beach for a couple hours and see some of these guys and also help keep them safe! (And also get something volunteering and wildlife-related to put on a resume if you need/want that)
(Least Terns, photo by Dann DeBlois)
Shifts are whatever you can sign up for, so you don't need to have the same time available every week (or even take a slot every week) and Audubon provides training, so there's no prior experience needed!
You can sign up here for more info if you're interested!
Pls reblog if you can, since they're really in need of volunteers atm

I have very mixed feelings about this season. On one hand, the decision to have most of the conflicts be internal, far-reaching, and end mostly unresolved is a bold move that I think has a lot of merit in a storytelling landscape that has shied very far away from ambiguity, to the point that thereâs a general expectation that all conflicts presented must be resolved by the end for a narrative to be âgoodâ (or considered skillfully constructed). Thereâs something to be said for an âunsatisfyingâ season of TV in a culture primed for comfort and familiarity. Sometimes things were left unresolved in a way that I actually appreciatedâSantos and the scalpel being one. If the lack of certain resolutions is intentional, I do feel thereâs something to admire. Is this season weaker than S1 because of it? In my opinion, yes, but not horrifically so.
On the other hand, itâs hard not to look at Mohan and now Al-Hashimiâs arcs and not feel disappointed. Robbyâs ultimatum to Al-Hashimi after a day of belittling and undermining her reads blatantly antagonistic from a birds-eye view, particularly because sheâs given the chance to throw his hypocrisy in his face when they argue this epâso I have to ask: why present that if not for the audience to think about it? Are his moments of dissociation and/or panic attacks so different from Al-Hashimiâs lapses? And if she doesnât come back, what was their conflict meant to convey? Worse, Supriya Ganeshâs departure and the manner in which itâs been handled over the past few weeks have soured things in general for me, especially given how rarely Mohanâs on screen over these last few eps. I really donât think itâs useful to speculate on the situation any more than people already are, but itâs still a dark shadow over the ending.
NOW, if S3 is going to be treated as a third act to multiple charactersâ journeys (obviously excluding Mohan), I think I could come around on S2 in a âthe weaker second book in a trilogy is doing a thankless jobâ sort of way. But if that doesnât happen, itâll cast my issues with this season in a different light.Â
Idkâitâs tough. Iâm glad that thereâs a story trying (I think) to challenge the viewer, but is it worth it if itâs coming at the cost of longevity and justice for characters like Collins and Mohan (and possibly Al-Hashimi)? Like is this bold-if-flawed writing or just a mid season of TV? If the writers room doesnât have several months/years to develop a season (as with S1), will they be able to reach S1 levels of balance, momentum, and nuance again? Who the hell is to say at this point! Guess Iâll have a couple months to think about it!

Is it just me or does having a positive interaction with a stranger scratch a very particular itch? I think it's the reassurance that the world is not split solely into people who already love you and people who never will.

Back-to-back record spawning seasons suggest that reconnecting tributaries and restoring salmon habitat is supporting Central California Coa
From the article:
During the 2024â2025 spawning season, endangered Central California Coast coho salmon (CCC coho) migrated to Mendocino Coast rivers in numbers few scientists thought they would see in their careers. Monitoring teams estimated that more than 30,000 adult coho returned, double the previous seasonâs record-breaking return of 15,000 coho. These numbers represent a significant leap from the past decade, where as few as 3,000 fish returned annually. Several factors contributed to this surge. Many scientists believe that reconnecting spawning streams to mainstem rivers and other large-scale habitat restoration projects significantly boosted their productivity and abundance. These actions expanded and improved the habitat available for salmon to spawn and grow. Since 2000, NOAA has supported more than 100 restoration projects across the region. For biologists and restoration practitioners who have spent decades surveying streams with few or no fish, the new numbers feel profound. âI am overjoyedâeverybodyâs just ecstatic about how many coho there are,â said NOAA Marine Habitat Resource Specialist Joe Pecharich, who has been supporting restoration projects in the region for 20 years. âWe have conducted intensive sampling since 2009 in these watersheds and many of us never thought weâd see something like this in our lifetime.â
