āSo Many Perritos, So Little Time ...ā I am always amazed at the individual visions that each photographer brings to an exhibit, even when photographing in the same location or the very same subject matter. The ā5 Visions of Cubaā Exhibit does just that. Five photographers traveled to Cuba together, seeking to capture the essence of the country with their images. Five photographers have retuned to share their visions of this incredible journey. I myself, am very excited to introduce my photographic exploration of the street-life of the Ā©CaninesOfCuba. This intensely personal journey has actually spanned a period of more than three years, with two visits to the island country. This adventure with these four friends is one that will forever hold a special place in my heart. As you can imagine, after two visits to Cuba I have quite a number of images in this collection. The body of work hanging in this first exhibit are some of my favorites. In time, I hope to exhibit more and publish my first book. I will also occasionally share images from the unpublished pieces here on social media. I do hope you enjoy the stories that I have to tell. ------------------------------- āSo Many Perritos, So Little Timeā I found this sweet little pup patiently waiting for itās owner while I wandered through the artists alley called Callejón de Hamel (Hamelās Alley). The self-taught Cuban artist Salvador GonzĆ”les Escalona spent more than twenty years creating artworks in Cuba as well as the U.S., Norway, Italy, and Venezuela. In 1990 he began spreading his art into the alley outside his apartment, right onto the streets and up the sides of the buildings. Eventually he filled two blocks with two with his mosaics, paintings, and sculptures. Today many artists, dancers and musicians share their own art and entertain the growing crowds of tourists and locals. They now have a local childrenās art program that meets in the alley and the surrounding neighborhoods have embraced this eclectic and progressive community of artists.
