No longer in a sling, but still in a cast, Patch was getting frustrated at her lack of ability to do most of the things sheād normally do. Too stubborn to give in entirely, Patch was determined to still get in a full workout - just minus the weights.Ā
However, one misstep on the treadmill had her smacking her cast against it to try catch herself. While she didnāt fall, she did swear, pain ringing through her arm.Ā

The doctor had finally signed off on her returning to desk duty, so Patch had spent the day buried in paperwork. Not the best way to start working again, despite how bored sheād been, sheād decided to get a drink to settle herself after the day.Ā
Noticing a man playing pool, she watched as he easily beat his competition.Ā āYou hustled him.ā She accused jokingly, not actually thinking it was a bad thing.Ā
veritythomas
Verity couldnāt argue with that since she would have requested desk duty if in Patchās position. They had pulled her from the desk to take over as a detective and that should have left an opening.
She wasnāt budging. That was truly a shame since Verity was hoping she wouldnāt have to turn to desperate measures. āI still donāt trust you,ā Verity mumbled. āSo I am truly sorry itās come to this point.ā
There was a moment of hesitation then Verity stuck a handcuff around Patchās wrist, the other half already around her wrist. āI guess weāre going to find the other detective.ā
Patch didnāt see it coming, which was kind of embarrassing. She was supposed to be quicker than that, but there she was, handcuffed to her colleague.Ā āShit.āĀ Staring down at the handcuff, she knew sheād lost the argument. āIs this really necessary?āĀ
āIām usually the one cuffing people.ā She muttered, twisting her wrist a little to find a more comfortable position. With one arm broken, and the other cuffed, she was not at all in control of anything anymore, and she didnāt like it much. But she supposed it was her own fault.Ā āGuess I have no choice, Iām coming with you.āĀ

āOh, perfect,ā Claude said, obviously relieved. āIām not picky either, honestly Iām usually just eating at Taco Bell,ā He admitted with a laugh. āUh, if Iām being totally honest with you, Eu, Iām a little nervous. Itās been a long time since Iāve been on a proper date,ā He confessed to her, reaching to open the door of the restaurant. He was honestly glad that she had even said yes to going. Heād been glad to have a normal interaction with someone for a change, even if he was a bit nervous.
āIm glad you answered,ā He replied. āHopefully Iāll cure your boredom, at least a bit,ā
His honest admission made her smile. Eudora had always believed that honesty was the best policy, although she did often use sarcasm in place of it. āReally? Mind if I ask why itās been a long time? Are you a workaholic too?āĀ
Once inside, they were shown to a table.Ā āTrust me, tonightās already better than eatingĀ efo riroĀ for the third night in a row.ā Coming from a traditional Nigerian family, on one side, Eudora was proud of her culture but sometimes, her family was too stifling for her liking.Ā āPlus, the companyās not bad.āĀ

The eye roll was expected. Truthfully, Patchās appearance should have been something she expected. She had hoped she would take the time off though since the past couple of days had been bordering on getting traumatic. āWasnāt it the doctorās orders that you rest?ā
She pressed her tongue against her cheek and shook her head. It took her pinching the bridge of her nose and several deep breaths for her to come up with an action plan. āIām going to ask you to move back one last time,ā She stated then turned back to the crime scene.
āThey missed a something,ā Her nose wrinkled and she narrowed her eyes at Patch. āI donāt think I can trust my going to fetch the investigator and leaving you here.ā
For a second, the smaller woman scowled at the mention of her doctor.Ā āIām not convinced my mother didnāt bribe him. I should at least be on desk duty.ā But since she wasnāt even allowed that right now, sheād just try help out the only way she could. Even if it was against the rules, but it wasnāt like she was hurting anyone.Ā
Patch made no effort to step back. No matter how much she respected and liked Verity, she was too used to getting her own way. Nothing ever stood in Eudoraās path, she just climbed over any obstacles.Ā
Studying the crime scene as well, sheād also seen what had been missed.Ā āYou beat me by two seconds.ā She smiled at Verity, sensing she was about to get what she wanted.Ā āIām not going to contaminate the scene, Iām not that stupid.ā It went unsaid that she definitely wasnāt going to leave though. She knew Verity would get that message loud and clear.Ā

āWell Iām glad officer.ā Frances teased the woman quietly as he moved to rest her hand on her sonās head, playing with his blond hair as they waited for the next stop. Ā He couldnāt help but laugh as the small boy glared back at the officer. āSorry, heās just as moody as I am, itās a real problem.ā she joked quietly.
As the other explained her job, Frankie nodded and smiled softly. āItās good though, that you think itās worth it and all that. When I was younger I thought about becoming a cop, but yeah, I think you see why thatād be a problem.ā she joked quietly. āGuess Iād be a better vigilante.ā
āDetective, actually.ā Patch corrected the woman almost absentmindedly. Sheād gotten used to making the distinction clear, after dealing with a few passive aggressive assholes who refused to acknowledge her achievements.Ā āNo, itās fine. I think I can handle a glare. Itās better than one of my cousinās kids, who screams every time she sees me.āĀ
The mention of vigilantes made her groan, thinking of the creep who knew too much about her.Ā āPlease donāt. Thereās enough trouble running around, I donāt want to deal with any more vigilantes.ā She did understand though, sometimes it felt like rules were more of a hindrance, but she did try to stick to them. Without any guilt, she admitted,Ā āI probably use my taser a little more than I need to, but... itās effective.āĀ

Frankie rolled her eyes. āIt wouldnāt have been a murder. Just enough to get him away.ā she sighed dramatically as she flipped the knife shut and shoved it back into her pocket, squeezing at her sonās hand some.
Watching her threaten the man however, Frances let out a laugh. āPeople are so fucked.ā she sighed, gripping onto the pole again as the train began to come to a stop. āSo whatās it like being a cop here? I bet itās awful, especially with everything thatās been happening, hm?ā
āIām relieved to hear youād only lightly stab someone.ā Her voice was dry but faintly amused, watching as the man backed away as much as possible. Awkwardly, her arm still in a sling, she turned back to the woman again, flashing a quick smile at the boy by her side. She didnāt know much about kids, but she liked them.Ā
āItās an awful time for anyone living in New York.ā Eudora loved her job, she always had, but it did have some drawbacks. Like breaking her arm in three places after an explosion.Ā āItās hard,ā She admitted,Ā ābut itās worth it.ā For her, knowing she could make a difference to someoneās life through her work was the very reason sheād become a cop. Sheād seen what it meant to her father, sheād seen the influence heād had on the community, and she wanted to do that too. But heād never had to deal with the craziness she did.Ā

Frances supposed she truly hadnāt lost her spark. For months she had been worried that she couldnāt stand up for herself anymore, that she had become too reliant on Sebastian. She was just trying to ride the subway like a normal person, Thomas holding onto her hand. Of course that meant some creep was going to try and interrupt.Ā
She bit her tongue and stood tall, until he pushed too far, actually touching her. With a swift motion she used the hand that had been holding onto the pole and pulled a switch blade from her pocket. Before she was able to really threaten the man however someone stepped between them. She glared at the stranger.Ā āListen, I could have handled him.ā
Eudora couldnāt wait til she was allowed to go back to work. Catching the subway, sheād been planning on seeing her doctor and trying to convince him to say she could at least be on desk duty. Itād be better than being home all the time.Ā
But then she saw a woman be harassed by a creep, and took two steps. Seeing the knife, she readjusted her plan, and faced the woman instead.Ā āIām sure you could have, but I donāt want to have to call in a murder right now.ā She tilted her head as if considering it.Ā āNo, itās too easy a case if you kill someone in front of an off duty cop.ā But then the guy hit her on the ass. Eudora spun around.Ā āSince I donāt have my cuffs on me, I will let her stab you if you touch another woman.ā She warned, too tired to try stick to protocol.Ā
@patchedeudora
Claude remembered Patchā well, Eudora, as sheād been so kind to let him call herā had given him her phone number. Claude hadnāt really dated much since being recruited to come to the city to help out with his power, and truthfully, heād often found flirting a little difficult. He wasnāt exactly awkward, but he wasnāt any night in shining armor either. Claude considered himself to be a bit of a nerd, and he usually couldnāt stop it from escaping his soul and lunging his nerdy-ness into almost any and every conversation he had.Ā
Though, after calling her, much to his surprise she had agreed to meet him for dinner. Heād picked a little restaurant downtown, something not too fancy but definitely something nice. He wanted to treat her, but he had a feeling that she was the type to be more impressed by personality and he didnāt want to look like he was trying to flex.Ā āI figured this place would be good. Iāve never been, but the reviews were pretty tight and Iām not too picky myself,ā He said as he walked her towards the entrance.Ā āUnless, you want to go somewhere else?ā
With the bombings, and then being put on leave, Eudora had forgotten about Claude, right until heād called her. Since she was still on leave, thanks to her arm still in a sling, sheād needed the distraction from the bad mood sheād been in, and a date was the perfect thing. Itād been a little harder to get ready for the date than sheād like to admit, but sheād managed.Ā
āNo, this place is great. Iāve heard good things too.ā She lived off takeout usually, although lately, with her mother fussing over her so much, sheād had plenty of leftovers stuffed in the fridge. Dinner out made a nice change, no matter where it was.Ā āHonestly, I can eat anything. Iāve never been picky either. Not when it comes to food.ā With a lot of other things in her life, she could be a bit too exact, too strict, but food had been such a big part of her childhood.Ā
āIām really glad you called, I have to admit. Iāve been bored out of my brain.āĀ
