I have been trying to make sense of things as people enter and leave the revolving door of so-called-life. Life happens and people sometimes part ways. It’s all very understandable since we all have commitments and we all have priorities. So when someone walks out of my life I wish them well and trust that their journey in life brings them countless joyous moments and encounters with open-minded individuals. But with that said, there is also a level of sadness as well. Sometimes it feels like it’s good-bye forever and that we’ll both be reduced to just a faded memory in each other’s minds. How many times have I seen someone in passing and thought they looked familiar only to realize, yes–I used to know them–but now, I can barely remember their name. Who are you, again?

I still love meeting new people but I find that I can only open up so much before I start pulling away. So when I found myself on the open sea with just two people–like I was a few days ago–I found calmness and joy in the simple act of sailing. I wondered how I got there and why I felt so at peace. Why did I feel lighter? Then it hit me like a brick! DETACHMENT. I sailed away from the urban walls of the city. I detached myself from the virtual reality where I was no longer held prisoner by the contents of my news feed. Instead, I was effortlessly in the present. In the moment. The breeze hit us so softly that it felt like it was cleansing us from our everyday toxins. The power of Wind and Water will do that to a being. I experienced that same feeling this past weekend while collaborating on a shoot with friends on their upcoming show. We created our own reality. Staying focused and seeing things from different angles kept me in the present. In the moment. Simply stated, our perception IS our reality. If we are doing things we love with people we love we can’t help but live in the present. In the moment.
