My teacher told us to pick a star from this envelope. There were four colours, blue, green, yellow and pink. She told us to write something on each point relating to something she said; a close friend, a close family member, dream job, a community you belong to, a life goal and an item on our bucket list (the star had six points). I thought this was going to me a fun activity, but it turned out to be a journey.
âThis is to explain the coming out process. The colour of your star will determine your outcomeâ. And I guess you can say Iâve been pretty lucky to have so many accepting people around me. I was about to realize a lot.
We started off with the close friend. She said âyou come out to your closest friend first. If you have a blue star they accept you and support you for who you are. If you have a green or yellow star, they are taken back a bit and stop talking to you for a bit but come to understand it. Fold back that point in your star. If you have a pink star, they are disgusted and you never seen them again. Rip off that point completelyâ.
It was essentially a series of disappointing results for myself because I had picked a pink star. My life had been a blue star, so I never knew what it was like to really have a pink star. Today I got an idea as (in theory) my closest friend rejected me, my family disowned me and kicked me out, my dream job found out and fired me, my community stopped associating with me and my life goal wasnât accomplished because I was too depressed to achieve it. All that was left was my bucket list item. I had written âhave kidsâ but if all that was happening, I wouldnât know if I would be too depressed to find the love of my life and have kids.
So all Iâm left with is my name in the centre. I looked at the teacher and raised my hand. âahh I see you have a pink star. How does it feel to lose everything?â She said. I looked back at it and said âbut I didnâtâ. My teacher looked very confused, so I began to explain a bit. âYou see, you had us tear off the points, but we still have the middle. Itâs because even though I lost my friends, family and my dream job, I still have me. I didnât change for anyone, I stayed true to myself and in the end, it will work outâ.

This could be interpreted in two ways. One, yes trust is a huge issue for me as in itâs very important. One of my favourite quotes is: Love requires trust and trust requires honesty - no clue where I heard it from but I love it.
Another way it could be interpreted is if itâs hard for me to trust others, and in that sense not really but for me itâs more of an earned trust rather than full trust in the beginning for another to potentially break.
6. What are you excited for?
This upcoming summer break! I get to do some more flying and start living on my own in my new house - feeling adult-y! But also spending time with my family and my girlfriend hopefully.
8. Do you think itâs disgusting when girls get really wasted?
Not so much disgusting but more so the fact that one could get that out of control to the point of getting really wasted. Itâs more the fact of losing control.

You shouldnât feel ashamed of having sex before or after marriage or whatever the case may be. Â You do it when youâre ready and if youâre not thatâs a-okaie too, especially if youâre waiting for the right person - itâll be worth it. Marriage doesnât dictate readiness. So in my opinion, itâs different for everyone and as long as that person doesnât feel pressured and is ready then go for it :)
