In the performance piece “Inhibited Bites,” artist and Parsons faculty Neil Goldberg draws randomly from a pile of 700-plus index cards containing notes he’s jotted down over many years, and encounters them anew. The result is a revelatory and comedic narrative that unfolds over the course of an hour and spans topics ranging from unrealized art ideas to language subtleties to social dynamics — for instance: “Watching people enter a party, you can really see what they were like as kids.” Projected large behind the artist, the cards offer striking visual context. Each performance is different, with its own singular insight, compassion, and wit.
During gallery hours, selected index cards will be on display as part of the group exhibition “Indirect Representations.”
INHIBITED BITES A Performance by Neil Goldberg Three Thursdays: March 30, April 6, April 13 7pm-8pm Cristin Tierney Gallery 540 West 28th Street New York, NY 10001 Free Please RSVP to Candace Moeller at [email protected] or 212.594.0550
nowhere {no where, now here}
Parsons Fine Arts MFA students proudly present, "nowhere {no where, now here}" which will debut at 25 East Gallery.
Spaces, people, objects, and time are always mutually affecting each other, existing in their own logic yet contributing to a greater logic. The works on view play in this sandbox of contradictions, exploring invisible concepts and forces through visible means. Limited materials express unlimited potentialities. The untouchable art object explores the tangible relationships between body and materials. Indecipherable symbols communicate an interior language. Closed artistic systems begin to open new modes of knowing.
April 3-15, 2017 Opening reception: April 3rd, 6-8 PM Curated by: Shunran Xue, Paloma Jimenez Featured artists: Shunran Xue, Paloma Jimenez, Sun Yue, Rebecca Ou, Al Prexta, Joshua Coates
