It's either they really don't know the truth about Leila, or they know, but they issued that damned resolution anyway. I am not sure which one is worse. What I am sure of is that their credibility just went down the drain. I used to look up to them and their institutions. I used to believe them without question. I feel so stupid now. Now, I can't help but doubt their every move. And they worry about the rising tide of populism and nationalism? They only have to look at themselves to find out why. They are terribly out of touch.

Cowards. Magagaling lang magsalita. Remember their names and never entrust power to them ever again. Arrest her now.

To those who say that Mamasapano should be a closed issue since P 188M have already been provided to the surviving family of the SAF44, I wonder what makes you think you have the right to say that. To me, the only one who gets to say anything about closure is the one who had to bury their dead. Did you bother to ask them?

Strange that I could not find any write-up about him. I used to read his columns regularly back when I still thought Inquirer was a reputable newspaper. I even bought his book “Tongues on Fire” which I consider a precious item in my book collection. I always found substance in his essays and found myself agreeing with him most of the time. I wonder how he feels about the current political climate in our country. I’m crossing my fingers that he has not crossed to the Yellow side. I still remember my extreme disappointment when I read Randy David’s recent pieces.

My dream is for my country to be the one giving foreign aid.

Dear Mr. President, I fully support you and I truly believe that you are who our country needs right now, but please, I beg you, please don't feed the trolls.

I thought the purpose of campaigning is to convince people and rally them to your cause. And when I say “people” I mean everyone, including those on the other side of the fence. I highly doubt that insulting those people will help convince them to cross over that fence. I don’t think there is a lot to gain by holding campaign rallies for your supporters so you can collectively gush and cheer on your common beliefs, and jeer on those who do not. I mean, your supporters will already vote for you. Instead, I think you need to think about those who will not and try to understand why. They are growing in number and that has to mean something. The other candidate is feeding on their fears, paranoia and prejudices and he is gaining some traction. What is it that makes them afraid, paranoid and prejudiced that they would be willing to vote for an obnoxious candidate? That needs to be addressed, and not dismissed with speeches of condemnation and messages of hope and love and rainbows and unicorns. These kinds of messages have already lost their impact in the face of a very real danger of getting killed in their own backyard. They obviously feel neglected that they have clung to the man who had the guts to call out the elephant in the room, and offered them false hopes. This man has articulated what any politician is thinking about but is too afraid to speak of because of fear of backlash. I think this “political correctness” thing has inhibited people in so many ways and it's not always a good thing.

So, they called it quits. I was actually surprised, I thought they had the real thing. No, actually first I was surprised they lasted this long, then I was surprised that they split. I was never really a fan of this couple, although I do admire all the good works they have done, and are still doing, for humanity’s sake. I just didn’t like how they got together. Maybe I have a deep-seated resentment for beautiful, intelligent, accomplished women, and the married men who leave their wives for them. Having said that, I can’t say I’m happy about their split either. That’s just being mean. A broken home is never something to be happy about.

Nowadays, when I’m not checking my instagram feed for likes, I’m consuming news articles about the current affairs in my motherland-Philippines.  The current political climate is quite exciting in both good and bad ways.  I would like to continue writing about it but I think my husband is at the door and I need to get dinner ready.
