the problem is stratt knows grace's presence will become largely superfluous the moment blackpanels come into the picture. which is wayyy before grace personally meets reddell, since she implies it all the way back during their meeting with lokken. grace makes his own temporary system with the ship's nuclear reactor and what little astrophage they make IS useful to test Dimitri's spin drives, but once reddell sets up the farm in the Sahara desert grace has virtually no reason to stay on the ship. like his job is done. he's the leading expert in the field, sure, but so are hundreds of biologists working around the world from the comfort of their home labs, he could very well just go back to the US by that point... or that would be the case if stratt didn't keep shoving unrelated work into his hands and dragging him to europe and australia and making the other science department heads run their ideas by him first. she doesn't even have the coma gene excuse!!! dr lamai and the blood test only happen after they nuke Antarctica. from that point on she definitely ramps it up, what with having him straight up test future lab equipment for the hail mary, but i feel like she would've tasked him with teaching dubois and shapiro even if he hadn't been coma resistant.
because she likes his insufferable ass. god bless.

My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.

One of my FAVOURITE ship dynamics to write or read in fics is when two characters are basically already a couple but they just haven't realised it yet. They call each other up at like 3am, they cuddle, they sleep in the same bed, they fall asleep in each other's arms, they hold hands, they practically live together, they talk about having a ~ special connection ~, they just haven't actually kissed or done the do or talked about their feelings yet so they're still both like "but I just don't know if they like me in that way!!"

Logan accompanying Oscar to the 2026 Hungarian GP and literally stopping people in their tracks because the sight of Logan in a tight-fitted gray t-shirt and teal shorts, aviators on, and one arm wrapped tightly around Oscar Piastri waist?
This becomes the top gossip of the entire weekend.
No one ever expected to see Logan Sargeant back in the F1 paddock but here he is, casually weaving between FIA staff and motorhomes, whispering something in the McLaren driver's ear that causes the usually blank-faced Omega to giggle and blush.
People wonder if their brains are playing tricks on them because no way was Logan this...good looking back in 2023 and 2024?? Tall, confident, perfect blond hair and movie star good looks. He's got that je ne sais quoi that captivates, moving with the ease and assurance of someone who knows where he's headed and won't let petty comments get in his head.
The only thing Logan seems to really care about is the shorter Omega trotting along beside him. Oscar, in his team kit and backpack, face half-pressed into Logan's toned chest, smiling slyly whenever the Alpha makes a comment.
It's blatantly obvious that whatever fracture erupted between the two ex-teammates has been mended, their friendship back on track.
Granted, no one expected the next phase of their friendship to be Logan acting as Oscar's guard dog, glaring at unruly fans or waving away journalists because, "Sorry, Osc can't talk right now, maybe check with his manager when he's next available?"
And then they keep on walking.
By the time they get to the OP81 garage, Logan gives the Omega another tight hug before heading up to hospitality to take a call from his agent and manager.
Logan's gone for less than an hour but when he returns to the garage, his instincts are immediately on edge.
Someone mentions that the "hounds are out".
The hounds are out.
Logan knows that phrase. Oscar coined it when they were in F2 together, when the Omega was forced to play nice with sponsors or fans who'd continuously hit on him despite Oscar's blatant discomfort. He'd still have to put up with it, the team needed the money and the good publicity so Oscar couldn't kick up a fuss.
Not when Prema was already taking a chance on an Omega.
Logan's adrenaline is already pumping by the time he weaves through the crowd of mechanics, engineers, and McLaren staff.
Oscar, standing there, arms crossed across his body, body hunched over itself. Standing two feet away was an Alpha, one who clearly came from money judging by the expensive but understated clothes he was wearing.
And the VIP paddock pass hanging around his neck.
He was trying to touch Oscar's wrist, his forearm, his elbow—any part of the Omega he could reach. All of this is done while someone from DTS casually films the interaction.
As if it were normal.
As if it were expected.
White hot rage slices through Logan as he watches his Osc have to endure this. His brilliant racer.
His future world champion.
Instinct propels him. Who the fuck cares what anyone says? Logan no longer a Williams driver, he's not contracted to any of these teams or sponsors. Hell, he's not even associated with F1 anymore.
No consequences.
No barriers.
He comes close enough to hear the man growl out hey maybe after this, I could take you for a drink back in my place, just the two of us—
And then Logan is grabbing him by the front of his shirt and shoving him into the nearby metal wall. The sharp, deafening clang! echoes throughout the motorhome, startling everyone into silence.
"What the actual fuck? Get your hands off of me!" The man tries to push him away but Logan has him pinned. His grip like iron as the man is forced to stand on his tip toes while a furious Alpha renders him immobile and trapped.
"You come near Oscar again and I'll make sure you never come near the paddock again."
"You think you can stop me?" The other Alpha tries to bluster even as his face starts to turn an odd shade of purple from how tight Logan's grip is. "My father—"
"I'll break your fucking legs."
The man's jaw drops. "You...you can't say that to me—!"
"Why? Because you've got money?" Logan sneers. "That's good. It means you'll be able to afford crutches."
"H-hey man, let's uh, let's not get crazy—"
"Then you turn around," Logan orders, voice deceptively calm, "and walk the fuck away."
The man's eyes briefly slide over to Oscar for a moment before Logan loosens his grip—
And then slams him back into the wall.
Harder this time, relentless.
"Hey, hey—listen man, yeah, agreeing with you. I won't come back, totally won't come back. Let's uh, let's talk it out yeah? I'm just—"
"Get out." Logan finally lets him go, causing the man to crumble to the floor.
No one, not even the FIA personnel, dares to move.
Vaguely, Logan is aware that this is being filmed by the nearby camera crew but he really doesn't give a shit.
Not anymore.
He turns around and, without glancing back, wraps one arm around Oscar's shoulders and pulls him close. "You okay, Osc?" He whispers, lips pressed against the top of the Omega's head.
His best friend immediately wraps his arms around Logan's waist. "Perfect, Alpha." He reassures.
It's wishful thinking but in the heat of the moment, Logan swears Oscar was purring.
Just for him.
(Oscar's shorts are wet. His panties soaked. And his mating gland is throbbing with want. If Logan doesn't end up mating him by the end of this season, Oscar will get down on his knees and beg. Because that's his Logie-bear, that's his best friend and Alpha. And no one else gets to have him.)
this is probably just me rpfing to cope *so might delete later when i'm less in my feels* but i feel like lando wasn't as giddy during his celebration as he would have been had oscar been up there with him.
for his first win as wdc, he was def very happy, but he wasn't quite running around with the same lightheartedness and excitement as i'd have expected.
oscar was his only real comp this race and he built up a tonne of momentum for that battle, and then it all got sapped out in a single instant by that disappointing dnf. he got edged just like we did.
imo for him half the pleasure of winning over oscar is getting to stand above him on the podium steps, and that was stolen from him today.
