Someone told me, "You are doing your best and that is more than can be reasonably expected of anyone," especially when I'm ALWAYS doing my best. It made me remember there was a time many years ago when I wasn't always trying to do my best and people still loved me anyway. It was when they stopped loving me that i started thinking I had to be trying and working at my best all the time

crying never registered to me as a manipulation tactic because crying did nothing for me as a kid. here's the thing. I was constantly crying and panicking in every situation so it was never a shock to anyone and at most annoying, especially at school. i'm curious if anyone can relate.

I just learned about the existance of “pretend to work” spaces in China where you can pay to pretend to work at a realistic looking fake office so that you can take selfies to pretend that you have a job and get your family to stop asking why you’re unemployed. Which is like such a capitalism thing that I have no joke to make about it.

also, many women/people experience controlling behaviour and domestic violence from their partner for the first time during pregnancy. don’t risk thinking “he’s just stressed, it’ll get better when the baby comes” because it won’t. neither you and your child will ever be safe with that man. get out as early and safely as you can

Nearly every woman in my old life chose to be a housewife, which is to say choosing to have fewer choices. I'm sure the spouses would have had more ability to leave each other over their lack of responsibility if they hadn't been so sentimental about their "family-based" lifestyle. There would have been more motivation to acknowledge that they all were hurting and disabling their own children in order to worship the ideal of the housewife as the stabilizing element of the family.
