Additionally, we learn that Pearl hasn’t just been angry at Greg this whole time because he denied her a relationship with Rose. Rather, we see that Pearl is involved in the complex, painful, very relatable process of trying to sort through the slurry of feelings about her relationship with Rose.

The song was not about Greg, or her anger at him. The song was about her own emotional process. Are all her feelings “right”? No. And she knows that. She’s sorting through her jealousy and grief and frustration and confusion and anger at herself, and trying to find a way to move on from them.
