as they weave on through, a few townsfolk wave and rory waves right back. it's nice to be home, no matter how strange the place might be. it's delightful in all it's weird, wonderful ways and she's excited to share that all with ann.

In a most diplomatic way, one that does happen to belie her rank despite any and all attempts to belnd in, Ann tries her very best to keep any judgement or curiosity out of her voice, aiming instead for an entirely unconcerned demeanour. Whether she succeeds is another story, for she is almost immediately distracted by what looks to be a game of snowman bowling being set up, gaze travelling from one stand to the next as they meander through. "Well, he must be a very rich fellow indeed if that's the case." This town truly is turning out to be a most peculiarly endearing place, and she's not even been in it for that long.

At the merest mention of sustenance, hazel eyes widen even more, if possible, and it's the closest she's come yet whilst on this trip to looking positively giddy. All the signs of food stands she's seen so far have been for totally wholesome and regular treats, which is precisely what she was aiming for with this year abroad programme. Something outside her comfort zone, she had repeated to her parents and parliamentarians, over and over again until finally she had been given their fleeting approval. "Carnival food is okay for me, if it is for you." A beat, then, as though she's reconsidering her own answer, and a shy smile follows shortly after. "I think I'd quite like that, actually. ––But surely corndogs aren't that good, are they? How long did you survive off them?"

stars hollow is most beautiful like this — covered in a blanket of snow and strewn about twinkle lights. it's special that she gets to share this with ann, that she gets to show her home at its peak. the town square is all decked out for the winter carnival that's set to start at sundown. they're getting close and all those manning booths are deep in their preparation.

" so . . . " rory leads, clinging tightly to her to-go cup of candy cane coffee from westons as if it has the power to keep her entire body warm, " have you ever had your fortune told by a dog before? if not, you're in for a real treat."

"I can't say I have, no." Words find their way out around the widest grin that Ann thinks she's ever worn, and those doe-eyes of hers are still as wide as saucers as they continue along on their little tour of Rory's quaint hometown. Steam is still curling from the lid of her peppermint mocha, the only thing stopping her from doing something utterly unbecoming, like chugging the cup's contents right there and then.

Not that anyone here would judge her for it, she thinks, or even take notice. They all seem to take this winter carnival business deadly serious, and she has the distinct feeling that it's not going to be just another tedious community event that she's attending. "I don't think I've ever had my fortune told by a human, at that. There's a first for everything I suppose."
