Lately... mizu has been acting weird

You and mizu have been dating more than over a year now, but ever since your anniversary, Mizu started acting strange.

Whenever you plan to come see mizu, she always brushes you off. Says "i love you and everything is okay" but that she's just "busy" or she has important stuff to do.

But what "important things" could Mizu be doing?

Mizu took a very long time to open up to you or even trust you since you're not only a human, but the only family she had betrayed her.

Mizu is your lover. Your life.

She would never do anything to hurt you.

But why does it feel like she's hiding something?

You've respected her space, giving her time to herself but it doesn't mean you can't stop thinking about it.

You know she will never cheat, but her being so distant makes you nervous and overthink.

That's why when she asked you out on a date and told you to "wear something nice" and "where something other than your gear"

You were more than happy to comply.

It's currently 7:26 pm. The sky painting your skin with a light golden hue as you await your partner's arrival.

You're nervous. Like really nervous. You've only ever been out of your scuba gear once during your entire relationship with mizu.

and that's only on special days, like your anniversary for example.

Suddenly you feel a light touch on your arm causing you to jolt.

"I apologize, i didn't mean to scare you" she hugged you from behind, holding your waist

"Mizu! I missed you more is everything okay?"

"I'm sorry for being so distant i just needed to take care of something but i promise i'm fine"

As you turn around you sense something is wrong It's..okay"

The more you look at mizu the more you realize how nervous she looks? No matter how long you've known mizu, you never seen her get so nervous

"Look.. y/n can i ask you something?"

"... are you breaking up me with me"

Mizu immediately looked up "what no i would never just please listen"

"um okay..."

Mizu is practically sweating bullets. Avoiding eye contact, biting her lip as she slowly sits you down and sinks into the water grabbing your hand

She pulls out a beautiful pearl ring engraved with you and mizu's initials on it.

"I know i'm not the greatest with words but ever since i met you, you have been the reason why i look forward to waking up everyday. I love you so much and i want to spend the rest of my life with you so y/n will you marry me?.."

As tears welled up you silently nodded your head yes and let mizu put the ring on you.

You immediately went in and kissed mizu as you both cried together.

"Is that why you've been avoiding me?"

"Yes. I wanted to make sure i made our rings perfect and made sure you wouldn't find out. I swear i will never be distant again".

As you and Mizu continued your date, you will never forget today and how this point forward you and mizu will spend the rest of your lives together.

The glowing hue of the suns horizon spills into your skin as you wait for mizu to arrive, nothing but the soft sounds of the waves hitting the shore.

You were dating for two months now already.

you had never planned on ever getting close to a human, let alone date one.

Before you met mizu, you would people watch. You had always found humans so fascinating. Watching boats, swimmers, surfers and fisherman on a daily basis to see how humans play out their lives.

You had never once gotten too close to a human.

No matter what, you vowed to keep your distance and to never let your guard down.

You watched.. but made sure you were never seen.

But everything changed when mizu started to show up. late nights and way early in the morning where you can hear birds singing.

When no one else was around.

When it was just you and her.

You don't know how or why but the more you watched her, the more you became infatuated with her.

From regular people watching to only focusing on her. Watching her. Stalking her.

She was so beautiful and so quiet. Her blue irises reflecting the color of the sea. You became.. obsessed with her.

When you actually met mizu and let her see you, you thought she was drowning and tried to "save her" because you only ever saw humans with masks on their face to breathe for longer than a minute.

Mizu thought she was going insane when she first saw you, and freaked out until you managed to calm her down.

The past few months with Mizu had been a complete turnaround for your life. Mizu was so gentle and kind to you.

She never hurt you or threatened to tell anyone about your existence, and promised to protect you if someone ever did find out about you.

Who waited patiently for you to become comfortable around her.

"I hope you weren't waiting for too long" Speak of the devil. The one who you were waiting for all this time. Your girlfriend.

You feel soft hands come around your waist as you turn around to see Mizu standing behind you

a soft smile playing on her lips

"I missed you my love what took you so long?"

"I'm sorry i just wanted to make sure i picked up something before i came here"

You take a look down at her hands and see her slip something into her swim shorts.

You decide not to question it.

"I'm just glad that you're here " you admit. A silence falls over the conversation as you take a good look at her face. "She looks good" you think to yourself. Relaxed.

Her eyes soft and gentle as her face remains unreadable.

"Now can we get started before i die of boredom" You break the silence first, hoping to seem less awkward with her constant staring.

"you're so impatient y/n but yes we can start, I want to do a challenge first"

"A challenge?" Your eyebrow furrowing

"I want us to race and collect as many things as possible, whoever has the most valuable stuff first wins"

"You do realize you're going to lose right? I was literally born in the sea" You can't help but laugh, slightly amused that your lover would suggest such a silly game

"If you win i will be more than happy to show you what's in my pocket" she smirks

"Really.. and what happens if you win? you question.

"You have to pick our next three dates"

"Fine.. it's a deal"

As night took over and the pale moon sinks into the darkness. What was supposed to be one round of racing turned into hours of you and Mizu getting distracted and competing against each other.

Now you and mizu are both worn out and exhausted. Sitting next to each other on the sand.

Trying to regain your strength back.

"close your eyes" Mizu spoke.

You look up confused to find mizu with a box she took out of her pocket. Right the gift.

you close your eyes as she slowly pulls you closer to her and places something along your neck.

"you can open now"

You slowly open your eyes and look down to find a beautiful pearl necklace lying on your chest.

"I love you" Her piercing gaze focused on you. She looks.. nervous. You had never seen Mizu so...relaxed and vulnerable.

She would always avoid questions about her past, and would sometimes avoid affection whenever you were too clingy around her.

As a tear stings through your eyes you realize how important you mean to Mizu and that you wouldn't give up your love for anything.
