Smith Tower and Mount Rainier, Seattle, 1914

The Smith Tower was Seattle’s first skyscraper. It was originally called the L. C. Smith Building for its owner Lyman Cornelius Smith of Smith Corona typewriter fame. The opening dedication ceremony took place on July 4, 1914.

Catholic Seamen’s Club, Seattle, 1944

At the time this photo was taken, the building in the foreground, on the southwest corner of Westlake Avenue and Olive Way, housed the Catholic Seamen’s Club.  The building was razed for the development of Westlake Mall. (To see the same spot now, Click Here.)
