It is my firm belief that Marty always always had the intention of staying in 1955 with Emmett. Ough…fellers…I just watched The Night of the Hunter and gawd. What a picture. It’s kind of a cousin to OBWAT, set in the depression era American South, with some really interesting religious aesthetics (more the snake handling southern church than the Baptist kind, though) and a bank robbery plot with a jailhouse scene to top it all off. It’s very much its own film (and tonally much darker) but it scratches the same itch just looking at those old cars and outfits, the overalls and bonnets, and Robert Mitchum makes for the same kind of charismatic leading man as George Clooney.

In the past two weeks, I’ve been iced in at college AND seen the most snow my hometown’s ever gotten in my life (pictures under the cut) and it’s got me thinking about an OBWAT snow day…Delmar trying to convince Pete to let him bring all the animals inside…Everett playing in the snow with his daughters and being way too competitive with snowballs…Penny making hot chocolate on the stove (none for Everett)…Pete slipping on the ice and busting his ass…
