On an added note, thereās a power dynamic going on between Varian and Cassandra.
And Varian is the one with more power here. By all means, Cassandra should have the advantage, but sheās actually losing in this scene.
Look at their body language.
Varian is standing his ground. His movements are limited and controlled. Heās constantly reaching out to Cass, and his focus is solely on her, even when sheās exerting power over him and pushes him away. Heās not wavering. Heās full of conviction and knows what he needs to do. He knows he needs to reach her somehow, even if that means getting brutally honest.
āYouāve lost your grip and lost your mind.ā Seriously, thatās harsh, and heās man enough to say it.
Cass is losing ground. Sheās all over the place, her gestures are all over the place, and she looks like sheās trying NOT to believe what Varian is saying. And when sheās about to lose the argument (because she has no argument), she retreats and resorts to using force to try and silence him.
I think itās because she knows heās right. In fact, heās practicing what heās preaching. He received forgiveness, and heās offering it to her. But in her mind, to accept it would mean admitting she was wrong. And Cass is too prideful for that.
But Varianās been there. I believe he is the one who can reach Cass. Maybe not right now, but heās persistent. I do believe he will reach her somehow.
