Yea I want to rearrange your guts but first how was your day? Did you eat?
(kicks my depression to the curb for long enough to do some actual writing) VERY seksy
ā i screwed up. ā no point in beating around the bush. itās not the first time michaelās gotten hurt trying to pull something off for 21-void, but it is the first time alice has been here to see it.Ā ā though that has to be obvious. ā

thymocosmā:
on the warm, tongue-in-cheek end of self-deprecating: ā yea, she got that from her mom, i guess. ā
tongue-in-cheek because kalia - in her looks, in her speech, in her mannerisms - is quite pronouncedly his. stephenās eyes move to the empty spot and back up and over before accepting.
ā thanks. ā a beat. ā stephen. - or holder. ā grinning, lowering his voice just out of kid-earshot, ā pain in the ass if weāre friends. ā
ā stephenĀ ā pain in the ass ā holder. noted. ā michael tips his chin down a little, mouth a wry line.Ā ā friends calling to you across the store must be fun. ā since theyāre now using their adult voices, which michael always feels is always a conspiratorial volume, he admits:Ā ā we arenāt good at park friends. kalia is the first relative stranger that mikeās gotten along with in a minute. ā other kids are too loud, too pushy, too abrasive in some way thatās not always visible to either parent orĀ other child. ( but relatively often they twig that mike is different and make a wide berth, anyway.Ā )Ā
ā long enough to witness your sales technique. ā entirely serious:Ā ā iām impressed. youāre good at this. ā itās a nice shop. ā

s. tancredi:
Ā Ā Ā it feels like itās nothing more than a dream. Ā Ā years ago, holed up in that warehouse when all they wanted was to take down the company for good, this is all she wantedā when she had foolishly believed that once they had come out the other side, they would be free to live their lives as they pleased. but then came miami dade, another escape, and the deep rooted sorrow of losing the man she loved. but now here they are. she has one hand gently stroking their sonās soft hair and the other simply rests on michaelās arm, silently reassuring herself that he is, in fact, alive and here with them. she wants to live in this moment forever, the rest of the world be damned.Ā Ā ā i still canāt believe youāre really here. āĀ Ā disbelief mixed with adoration laces her tone, the corners of her lips twitch upwards to form a small smile. thereās still so much for them to talk about and deal with but for now, she chooses to stay in the moment. her hand travels from his arm to his shoulder, as though sheās memorizing his body with her fingers.Ā Ā ā after all this time, after all these years. ā
voice a low scratch: ā i keep worrying. ā itās an incomplete statement, at first, cut off because michael worries about a lot of things: that the company will return like a phoenix and come for the precarious lives they have, that 21-void hasnāt been completely rooted out and will come for the precarious lives they have, that john abruzziās children will come for the precarious lives they have - a million bowling ball fears to knock down the pins of existence. he canāt put voice to all of that, though. not least because he suspects that sara already thinks about it, the notion that ghosts will continually haunt them; and he doesnāt think that they should make the ghosts seem real by encouraging one anotherās paranoia. so instead he closes her eyes as her fingers rest on his shoulder, their light but real weight, starts over.Ā ā i keep worrying that iām going to wake up in - solitary in ogygia again. that being free isnāt real. ā he shifts his weight, careful not to disturb mike, so that he can tip his forehead against saraās temple.Ā āĀ then i look at you and i know iām here now. ā
d. martinā:
recompense puts something like the fleeting promise of warmth in davidās stomach, there and then gone - dispelled by a half-wry snort. ā who the hell came up withĀ āmantherā. ā
ā i saw it on the internet, ā michael admits, with a short laugh that comes with a broad, honest smile, off the back of what almostĀ feels like whip scolding him. ( a smile like that - lights up michaelās usually stern expression. )Ā āĀ old men trying to make themselves feel better, i think. ā
a. mahoneā:
it peels back a little too much skin, how easy it is: to fall back into that silent language, or to the push-pull of non-verbal communication when thereās a kid in the room. ( kids are smart. mikeās more observant than most. it wouldnāt surprise him if mikeās picked up on static in the room. but kids are self-absorbed, too - rarely listening to anything that isnāt loud enough to be targeted at them. )
ā - alright. ā the beat of hesitation is a polite hovering of uncertainty; as much as recognition. for coffee is deliberately delimited. whether heās being offered an out or kept at armās length - thereās a sense in his stomach that itās both, even if michael canāt quite admit it to himself.Ā
mike nods somewhere in the back of alexās quiet, cutting things off at the pass before alex can think anything much too loudly about david. ( but theyāve already had that conversation, too. ) ā yeah. ā mike shifts his weight, settles differently, picks up a different coloured crayon. ā they talk too much. ā
in spite of himself, a smile, airless huff, cracks open on alexās teeth, startled-amused. muted: ā tell me about it, kid. ā
mike isĀ observant, in the same ways that michael is. michael thinks he will probably have the same long and selective memory, too. by contrast to michaelās own experiences, though, sara is a good parent. there shouldnāt have to be years of repression and panic attacks and a fierce, frightening, frightened need for control that michael has been through. between sara, a good psychologist, and a steady home environment - maybe everything that jacob did and set into motion will be a bad memory but not a haunting one.
michael hums.Ā ā yeah, they do. you two had the right idea.Ā ā lj and whip get along a little - too well, in a way michael feels like he shouldāve anticipated, given how close in age they are. itās not bad, but it is a lot. more than michael knows how to consciously deal with. ( it keeps happening, something like this, where he settles at a distance from everyone else, looking at them and feeling a prickling disconnect. at least in some way - mike and alex feel it too. )
ā everyone is gonna head home before long.Ā ā michael glances at the clock on the wall. he abruptly realises he doesnāt know what time sara puts mike to bed. he doesnāt - heās not - here enough, yet.Ā āĀ then itāll be me, your mom, and alex. ā he blinks at alex with a half-warm smile and then down at mike. ā speaking of. iām too old to sit on the floor for long, buddy. you good here ? - alex ? āĀ
in all senses he wants to be able to sit and talk to alex without treating mike like some object immediately between them, so itās half a cue for the other to join him as he clambers to his feet and moves to the couch. in only some senses itās that michael isĀ achey; distant throb in his skull, slightly unsteady feet, the thingĀ in his head that he doesnāt like to talk about bothering him as much as all the noise is.
I donāt want to have any secrets from you. I never want to have any secretsĀ ever again.Ā

@overprepared liked ( x ).Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā the problem with trying to go shopping with a daughter that wanted to look at everything was that she was easily lost in the crowd.Ā small for her age,Ā but at least with a shock of blonde hair on her head like her auntie and nana.Ā it only takes about half an hour in for her to go running off,Ā and ridley to push through to chase her.Ā Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā he catches up to her chatting with another manĀ āĀ he catches her hand and smiles in apology.Ā Ā āĀ sorry.Ā Ā āĀ willow whines at being found.Ā Ā āĀ she likes to make friends with everybody.Ā Ā āĀ
ā hi. not a problem. ā and itās really not.Ā he wants to say that he has a son, that he knows what itās like when they run off, but he still doesnāt knowĀ mike yet, and - mikeās inclination is to stay by his parents. his curiosity only extends to the fenceline - the back yard is his kingdom.Ā
ā ā i was just telling willow what nora does. ā the poodle has taken a seat by michaelās left leg, comfortable in her service dog, please donāt pet me vest, and is looking between him, willow and willowās father (michael assumes).Ā
