Been thinking a lot lately how cool it is that we have language. Like what do you mean we figured out a pattern of different sounds and gave them all different meanings depending on the different order of the sounds. What do you mean we figured out how to push air from our lungs through our vocal cords to make them vibrate in order to produce so many different sounds. What do you mean we assigned symbols for these sounds so that they can be read on a page without having to make sounds at all. What do you mean we then invented braille and sign language so we can still communicate no matter what. And the fact that words mean things! “Blue skies” and “cerulean heavens” both kinda mean the same things, but because they’re described with different words/sounds, the connotation and rhythm have the potential to change the way they are understood. Each word is a choice, and they are strung together to form our thoughts and speech in such unique ways thanks to our species’ innate desire to be understood. Think about how many thousands and millions of years have gone into the things we read and hear every day
