ah, well, i’ve always thought that kaiba was a tad misanthropic? but that includes himself and whatnot too?  he dislikes human nature and he’s been wronged a lot of times, so he’s bitter in a few ways, but he also has some pretty negative thoughts about himself? regrets and doubts are common. like, he’s thought about things he’s done in the past that were disgusting and that happens often? he doesn’t trust humans, but he is one as well, obviously. his mistakes are a sign of that, and though he tries to improve througbout the years, he’s also kind of atoning in a few ways, but he still thinks he failed at that.

but i guess what i’m trying to get at, is that romance goes both ways. it has to do with yourself and the other person, and kaiba wouldn’t have that much trust in either of them. he has a lot of pride in himself, but he holds himself in a lower regard than a few things—mokuba being one example.

in any case, it’d take a lot for him to fall for someone? they’d have to show him that they were someone he could trust, and that’d take patience. after, i guess he’d humour the idea of romance, and i could see him having an interest in the person romantically without rly acknowledging it, but when he did, he’d just go for it, because there’s honestly nothing you could lose besides a little awkwardness. love is something he wouldn’t believe it, but if it rly did happen to him, he wouldn’t just let it escape him that easily. if the other person wasn’t interested, then fine, but he’d be content with trying.
