he doesn't understand baekjin's 'strong interest'(?) in humin. sure, okay, maybe the guy can fight somewhat well. but to care about a single individual? is it because baku gets shit done with any task for the union? or is there something else going on? doesn't make sense to seongje at all─ until this boy with fire in his eyes, words cutting sharp as his smile. every time seongje and hyuntak cross paths, the air between them crackles with embers. the beginning sparks a wildfire threatening to devour them both.

"jaegiya, you're gonna make me do terrible things if you flirt with me like that." seongje smiles. fucking hell, he gets such a kick out of hyuntak's verbal attacks. "i told them to play with you a bit, but i guess─" with two fingers on hyuntak's jaw, seongje gently turns his face to get a better look at the damage. "─they got a lil' carried away." seongje makes a mental note to make it clear to his subordinates to not fuck up hyuntak's pretty face. only seongje can do that.

he withdraws his hand, but doesn't move away. "i'll take you out on a real date soon. but first─" seongje smiles, "you're going to be my hunting dog." whatever baekjin's got going on with baku, seongje wants to explore with hyuntak. no fair that only baekjin gets to have all that fun. "i'd strongly recommend you agree, because──" seongje holds up juntae's broken glasses, "─it'd be a shame if something other than this broke."

the way sieun moves out of his touch, those words thrown his way─ fucking hell, seongje can't get enough of this boy. seongje's downright abysmal with hiding his smile─ the way it grows and twists across his face, delightfully carved out with a knife. just like how he doesn't bother with hiding his laugh while receiving the shot after sieun stabs him. ( to say the medic was concerned would be an understatement. ) seongje's been in too many fights to count, but none stays on his mind like the one with sieun. always replaying, looping. no, the memories aren't haunting nightmares. they're warm daydreams, blanketed by nostalgia.

"aw, look at you being so skittish," seongje coos, notes dripping with too much saccharine sweetness. "like a kitten." he's almost tempted to trace along the edge of that laceration on sieun's cheek again. just to see how else the light in sieun's eyes will flicker. or better yet─ maybe sieun will lash out? throw a punch? tilting his head with a hum, seongje remarks, "i'm curious if you bite. and hey!" he brightens, turning his face and pointing at the healing cut across his cheekbone. "we match." he talks about injuries like matching plush keychains, phone cases, or whatever typical couples do. seongje really, really hopes both their wounds scar forever. it's only fair that sieun never forgets seongje when the boy's always on seongje's mind as it is.

"what? is it a crime to go for small talk?" seongje reaches into the inner pocket of his oversized sports jacket. "catch─" he tosses over something at sieun. it's a new pack of pens. the same brand that sieun used during their rooftop fight. seongje hurled that pen away in the middle of the fight, but just happens to find it when he's leaving. doesn't matter that his foot's bleeding and numb. seongje laughs, looking like he found the winning lottery ticket once he picks up the pen.

"i figured these could come in handy for you." seongje shrugs a shoulder, his smile relaxed and easy. "although i'd prefer if you only stab me. or else i'd get reeeeal jealous."

there have been people who asked baku to be quiet , demanded , even his father never looked enthusiastic to have his son speak a word more than an utterance of ' yes sir ! ' ─ but baekjin never did . baku's loud voice always met baekjin's gentle indifference , sometimes even a smile because it felt like being home . whenever he'd hear him , turn and be tackled by his brutal embrace . home , he hasn't been home in a long time now . while baku was never able to hide his feelings in his expressions , baekjin was the master of masks . dealing with the union doesn't leave much room to care for himself , or eat more than some snacks maybe .

‘ i eat biscuits . ‘ another meek , quiet excuse for his unhealthy diet . but it's good to go somewhere with baku , it's good to know he's coming because he's worried , not because he's forced to . the mokha duo were quietly chattering by the bowling alley , one of them snickering and the other straightening when he saw baekjin head toward the stairs with baku . who doesn't exactly spare a glance at them despite knowing they're bowing their heads in respect . they're impatient vultures sometimes , while baekjin trusts them with the jobs , he would never trust them around park humin . ‘ did you give the first payment to your father ? ‘ he asks when they start walking on the sidewalk , turning his head to look at baku's side profile . fondness fills his chest upon seeing the slightest darker pigmentation on the back of his neck ; sunburns , playing basketball for hours under summer sunlight , sipping ice like lemonade with sweaty shirts . oh how he misses humin ── ‘ that payment was yours , you know . ‘ not your dad's . mister park always looked more human than baekjin imagined him to be , helpless even . baekjin doesn't forgive lacking , not distractions but he was just a miserable little man sometimes , with too many mistakes . while he held some respect for him , he would be damned if he let the man take advantage of the money baku brought home from these jobs . even if baku didn't defend his right himself .

"what─" eyes growing even wider, baku shakes his head. "i mean, yeah, biscuits are really fucking awesome. but you gotta have more than that." baku keep his hand in the pocket of his jacket, so he doesn't playfully swat at baekjin's back like he used to. because it's too friendly, right? "remind me what you like eating. i'll bring it over." ( he already knows, there's too much still remembers about baekjin, but baku likes learning about him all over again. ) something in the back of baku's mind throttles him around by the neck, hissing and warning about not getting familiar with baekjin. this is the boy who won't hesitate to unleash a guillotine over anyone in baku's life. but just being able to exist with baekjin like this, and not profusely spill more bad blood feels like a daydream come true. it doesn't help how baku can enjoy the timbre of baekjin's voice, take in the sight of this beautiful boy composed of sharp, elegant lines and angles.

brown eyes light up at baekjin's question about first pay. "yeah, i gave it to my dad." not that his father ever demands him, but baku believes in giving the first payment of any job to family. he's done that with any part-time gig so far. the union isn't your typical job, and baku isn't proud of what he does─ but it's no different when it comes to giving his father that first pay. "this time, he cooked for me, and we ate together." voice awed, baku smiles to himself. baku's always craved that so badly ( along with his father someday tousling his hair, coming to one of his games, maybe even saying 'i'm proud of you.' ) two reasons baku learns to cook: his father and baekjin. baku learns to make their favorites, so he can take care of them. back in the day, baku packs baekjin's lunches, and makes his father's dinner. "i missed this," baku says out loud, his heart never having a filter ( except when it comes to his deepest feelings for the boy right next to him ). "just us being─ us." not mastermind of the union. not top dog of eunjang. just baekjin and baku.

like the moon calling the ocean, that's what baekjin's always been to baku. even as kids, baku could never resist baekjin's gravity. and he never wanted to. with the force of an overexhilarated freight train, baku would always tackle baekjin with a hug. the only warning was baku shouting "na baekjin!", loud enough for the whole neighborhood, world, universe to hear. how could he ever keep quiet about the one person who makes him so fucking ecstatic to be alive? ─── even years later, baku wants to go to baekjin. hold him. relearn the rhythm of baekjin's heartbeat against his own chest. but to baekjin, baku's just a sledgehammer, a hunting dog, an asset. something to use. ( maybe when they were kids, only baku believed they were friends? ) baku often shoves his hands into his pockets around baekjin, so he doesn't do something wild like reach for the boy's hand.

"what the fuck." brows knit together. "two─ two days?! you- what─" always wearing his heart on his sleeve, baku can't hide the worry at all. "no, it's on me. i should've brought you food or something sooner." baku walks beside baekjin, already making a mental note of when he should kick down baekjin's office door, armed with take out. ever since joining the union, he roughly knows baekjin's schedule by now. "i get that studying's really important to you, and i respect that, but you gotta take care of yourself too."
