The energy-efficient desalination system produces fresh water without chemical additives and transforms leftover salts into useful materials
Desalination is the process of generating freshwater from brackish or saltwater, usually through the process of reverse osmosis. While this can be a very useful tool in water shortages, it also has some pretty huge drawbacks--reverse osmosis requires a lot of energy, requires chemical treatment of the water, and produces concentrated brine as a waste product which can be harmful to aquatic ecosystems.
Researchers have recently discovered a new way to perform desalination using solar energy, which doesn't require chemical inputs and collects waste salt instead of producing brine. Concentrating the waste salt in a solid form instead of brine means that it can later be processed to extract valuable minerals like lithium.

Barbara Anna Kistler (November 21 1955 - January 1993) was a Swiss revolutionary and member of The Communist Party of Türkiye/Marxist–Leninist (TKP/ML)
Born in Zürich, Switzerland. In her youth she was a member of the Group Against Isolation (KGI), which sought to establish a Communist Party in the country. In the mid 1980s she met Turkish Communists who had escaped the 1980 Turkish coup d'état.
In May 1991 she would be arrested in Istanbul, she was held incommunicado for a ten day period, during which she was tortured. She would be returned to Switzerland in September, however Kistler soon traveled to the Dersim/Tunceli Province of Türkiye, where she became a combatant for the Workers' and Peasants' Liberation Army of Türkiye (TIKKO) the armed wing of TKP/ML.
In the guerrilla struggle Kistler would help train foreign volunteers and do her utmost to assist the cause in anyway possible. In January 1993, she would be injured after a confrontation with the Turkish military and succumb in the harsh winter conditions.
Although somewhat obscure, Barbara Kistler remains an exemplary representation of Proletarian Internationalism. Her courage and dedication to the cause of the oppressed and poor should instill inspiration to revolutionaries worldwide.
In light of recent events, I have begun submitting bug reports when I see mature content labels applied inappropriately to posts, especially if an appeal has been rejected.

one simply must not underestimate the amount of intense transandrophobia that comes from self-identified TMEs & other trans men. & one must not underestimate the amount of people that would be considered "TMA" and trans women who get treated like shit for calling out anti-transmasculinity.
this is why the problem of anti-transmasculinity in trans spaces is not as simple as "non-transmascs need to stop talking over transmascs on transmasc experiences" because while yes that is true! the real problem is anti-transmasculinity as something we all internalize. our goal should be collective healing through unlearning anti-transmasculinity, so we can treat each other better and be more effective in resisting oppression, not treating different trans groups as warring factions.
(additionally there are people who don't identify as transmasculine who are still affected by anti-transmasculinity, or who otherwise contribute in valuable ways to the discussion on it; "talking over" does not mean "talking at all.")
The thing that has me scratching my head in confusion about the recent wave of "trans men are invading women's spaces" rhetoric from TRFs is that I thought we were in agreement that the very concept of "men's spaces" and "women's spaces" was a load of crap. I thought we were in agreement that bathrooms should be marked "bathroom with a urinal" and "bathroom without a urinal" instead of "men's" and "women's." I thought we agreed that healthcare should never be gender segregated regardless. I thought we were in agreement that everything called a "woman's space" was just blatantly being exaggerated as a tool of exclusion.
Further, why are you using these arguments that were invented by TERFS when you know these will inevitably be weaponized against you too? Do you really think you can rehabilitate concepts made to hurt YOU and turn them into a weapon against just the people you hate? Like even if you can't be a decent enough human being to care about transmascs, you could at least have an ounce of self-preservation and realize this is helping TERFs to hurt YOU, not just the trans men you want dead!
I think part of the ''why'' is that people think conservatism is a character flaw. People think ''people become conservative because they are bad and cruel and I'M not like that! I would never be like that!"
Why are trans people turning so TERFy when we seemingly agreed that this was all bad? Well, everything is getting more conservative, on account of the climate/environmental crisis and the related decay of capitalism and the rise of fascism as a response. People are scared animals and it is so easy to adjust to this environment by internalizing it, in hopes of surviving it.
With trans people getting turned into a scapegoat and neo-radfems getting massive political platforms, it was inevitable that people would react by internalizing radical feminism and trying to cut out the parts of themselves and their community that are least able to adjust to that. I think its a semi-conscious process of trying to blend in, trying to survive, trying to make sense of what is happening to you and why. Each person has a lot of different preexisting beliefs they are working with to make sense of the world, and we aren't consciously self-aware of most of them. What seems obvious to one person (you cannot rehabilitate radical feminism for trans people, because it is fundamentally structured through cissexism) will not be obvious to another if they are navigating the same issue with a different "map" so to speak.
Survival instincts are not necessarily moral instincts. Resisting conservative, fascism, etc. are not things that always feel conducive to surviving this present moment, especially for people whose worldviews did not have a developed and strong understanding of what resistance and revolution would mean in practice, how the circumstances would feel, and the kinds of material and ideological forces at play.
I think a lot of people are getting more conservative because they are falling back on survival instincts and trying to adapt to an increasingly conservative environment. But, at the same time, they don't think of themselves as conservative, nor do they want to be, and they want their survival instincts to be moral instincts (as I think we would all like!) and that the things they are doing to keep themself safe are also things that are morally correct and effective responses to injustice.
And again, people want conservatism to simply be the product of a character flaw they are better than, not something that anyone can fall into ideologically as a result of both personal choices and belief-environment. We want it to be that becoming a conservative is a conscious process we would certainly be fully aware of if it happened to us. If we could become conservative, either conservatism must be objectively right, or it means that "conservative" is not a unique class of people entirely different than oneself and the left as a whole.
And people are very bad at doing worldview work under stress when feeling unsafe and also trying not to become homeless or starve to death. So we end up in these kinds of
One of the main benefits of wearing a mask is that it protects you and others from illness. Masks also reduce exposure to allergens, germs,

By Taylyn Washington-Harmon
Wearing a mask has several benefits. It can keep you from inhaling any respiratory hazards, such as particles of dust or smoke, poor air quality, and germs. Masks can also protect others and reduce the spread of infections if you have an illness.
Research has found that wearing masks, along with social distancing, has significantly curbed the spread of SARS-CoV-2—the virus that causes COVID-19.2 KN95 and N95 respirators have been shown to offer strong protection.
1. Keeps You From Spreading Germs
Masks can help prevent you from spreading germs if you're already ill. Wearing a mask decreases the likelihood that you will exhale and spread germs into the surrounding air.
2. Prevents You From Getting Sick
Infectious diseases can spread from exposure to droplets containing germs that cause diseases. Masks protect you from inhaling droplets when people around you breathe, cough, sneeze, or talk.1
A 2022 study showed that one person wearing a mask is partially protected from infectious droplet exposure from others with SARS-CoV-2. One-way masking is better than not using a mask—in other words, one person wearing a mask is better than no one wearing a mask.
3. Protects People With a Weak Immune System
Masks protect people who have a weak immune system. They reduce or prevent exposure to germs that can make you very sick if you are immunocompromised. This means you have an immune system that does not work properly.
Immune system dysfunction may occur due to:
Chronic diseases, such as diabetes or cancer
Conditions like HIV
Therapies that suppress the immune system, such as radiation therapy
4. Reduces Exposure to Allergens
Wearing a mask could decrease allergen exposure, especially if you have pollen allergies. A mask that covers your mouth and nose helps filter out pollen or irritants. Masks also change the moisture and temperature level of the air you breathe in, further reducing allergy symptoms.
5. Shields You From Poor Air Quality
Wearing a mask can protect your respiratory system and general health when there is poor air quality because of pollutants.8 Categories of poor air quality range from moderate to hazardous on the Air Quality Index (AQI).
The AQI measures levels of the following pollutants with Clean Air Act regulations:
Carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide: Gases from motor vehicles and industrial processes
Ground-level ozone: Gas from the atmosphere referred to as smog when it reaches the ground
Particle pollution: Particles made of sulfate, nitrate, carbon, and mineral dust chemicals
Who Should Wear a Mask?
All healthy children and adults should wear a mask when necessary. Talk to a healthcare provider to determine if and when to wear a mask if you are sick or at risk of getting very sick.
The following people should not or may not be able to wear a mask:
Children under the age of 2
People who cannot remove a mask or put one on without help
People who have trouble breathing
Those with certain disabilities who have trouble wearing masks (e.g., people who are sensitive to having something on their face)
Choosing the Right Mask
An effective mask will fit well: It won't be too tight or loose. It will also have high filtration of particles and droplets, measured by a percentage. High filtration means the mask does a good job of protecting you from those particles and droplets.
The most effective masks are ones approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). NIOSH-approved masks (or respirators) are tight-fitting and have higher filtration rates—usually greater than 95%. These masks also are best at protecting you and others when worn correctly.
The next best option is international filtering respirators such as KN95s. They offer at least 80% filtration and are also tight-fitting. Other masks—including barrier face coverings, disposable masks, and cloth masks—can have variable filtration and fit. While not as effective as N95s or KN95s, disposable masks can be easy to find, comfortable to wear, and better than cloth masks or no mask at all.
Other Considerations
Follow this guidance to ensure proper mask wear:
Check the mask for any damage, and use a new one if there are any defects like holes or broken pieces.
Choose a mask with multiple layers and, preferably, a nose wire to get a good fit on your face.
Make sure your mask covers your mouth and nose once in place. It should also fit comfortably, but snugly, on your face.
Wash your hands before putting on your face mask.
You can wear a cloth mask on top of a disposable mask or a mask brace over disposable or cloth masks. You can also knot and tuck three-ply mask ear loops.
A Quick Review
Masks have been used to protect against COVID and other infectious illnesses. Wearing them has other benefits. Masks may keep your allergy symptoms from getting worse, or they can keep you from pollutant exposure.
NIOSH-approved masks are the most effective, though other masks may be helpful, too, depending on the type of mask. Not everyone can wear a mask, but you should wear one that has a snug, comfortable fit if you can and when necessary.
The Oregon data center situation is a really good example of how anti-ai sentiment on this website has such a totality over the average users mind that they don't understand articles put in front of them. People on this website will refuse to understand actual situations that are happening because they want to be more mad at AI.
Amazon data centers constructed in eastern Oregon's farmland have worsened a water pollution problem that’s been linked to cancer and miscar
The article again for people who missed it but to summarize the issue
>a rapid boom of agriculture in an otherwise arid and less than optimally fertile region has resulted in a ton of water pollution from the fertilizers necessary to keep the agricultural industry there profitable
>the people in charge of cleaning the water struck a deal with the agricultural farms that they would provide polluted water for them to spray over their crops as a way to cut down on fertilizer costs
>this polluted water then re-enters the water table, and this is particularly drastic for winter spraying where there is no crops to absorb the extra nitrates
>the reservoir and water tables at this point are so intensely polluted that there isn't clean water left
>enter Amazon
>amazon uses water to cool off their data centers
>normally this would not be a problem. data centers do not "pollute" the water they intake
>however, since hot water tends to evaporate somewhat, this results in any pollutants already in the water to become more concentrated
>because the water table is already so polluted, Amazon can't source clean water and must use nitrate polluted water for their data centers
>this causes a discharge of more nitrate concentrated water which is putting additional stress on the waste water systems and requiring more spraying
>data centers are not causing the problems but are exacerbating it
>these data centers have been in the area for over a decade, because data centers are used for more than AI
>the presence in agriculture, the data centers, and the waste water solution were all orchestrated by about five to seven members of government all working together to make as much money as possible in a bunch of nakedly corrupt moves
>this includes the waste water treatment body blackmailing the state government to let them continue to do winter sprays or they'll dump their nitrate polluted water into the water system
>all the while this has resulted in a bunch of health complications such as cancers and miscarriages
>the people trying to expose this are being targeted both by government and by under the table actors
>the whole situation is fucked and the state government isn't moving to actualyl fix it
This is a very complicated situation. Here is what the average tumblr users knows about it
>AI data centers cause cancer
do you see? do you see why this pisses me off? do you see why I said that I think anti-AI sentiment is going in the wrong place? Stopping AI will not stop this situation or make it better.

throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, our generation was inundated with aave. it eclipsed lolcat as the "funny way to talk." ain't nobody got time fo dat turns into dat boi o shit waddup. this is blatantly not an "aracial" or "gen z" way to talk. it IS black english. not to mention the amount of black reaction images!!
WHY, specifically, is it black peoples' facial expressions that are seen as just so comical or exaggerated? analyze the history of this nation's comedy and tell me why you might be predisposed to thinking of black peoples' faces as just, "more emotive" or exaggeratedly funny than a white or nonblack person's
and throughout those years, 00s-10s, many black bloggers -- victims of the mass staff-led purge (under the cover of them being 'russian' while reichblr still exists) -- they DID tell us it was a problem, DID try to educate people who freak out at the insinuation of 'being racist,' DID argue, DID point out the duplicity and the appropriation and the gross equivalence of african american slang with unintelligence, goofiness, etc. and they were ignored, abused, cancelled, chased off, until being eventually mass deleted by our racist transmisogynistic staff.
we didn't do enough, and the generation after us gen z "kids" didn't stop the trend. using the '-ahh' suffix. rizz. no cap. ate. delulu. it's giving. it's serving. crash out. lock in. aura. tea. main character. bruh. slay. real. keep it 100.
all of the following images are or were popular reaction images! what do they all have in common?
it feels like the effort to categorize slang as AAVE and not 'gen z' or 'gen alpha' slang has really petered out. it feels like we stopped talking about digital blackface in an era where the administration is posting ai-generated videos of black women who speak and act like exaggerated stereotypes and it frustrates me because we all have a responsibility to understand our generation's role in normalizing this type of racist shit for kids today. this needs to be addressed!
The other thing about meeting my wife on this website is I've seen multiple friends today reblog a post about how some mutuals you eventually transition to using their given name and some you never do, and the thing is. The woman I am legally married to is in the latter category.
