In light of recent events, I have begun submitting bug reports when I see mature content labels applied inappropriately to posts, especially if an appeal has been rejected.

Extremely good idea - how are you doing it? Through the contact us option?

for what it's worth: after a few months of submitting help tickets as 'feedback' when i saw a post inappropriately flagged as mature, i tried following this suggestion instead. today i got my first-ever response from tumblr support on this issue, letting me know that a post i'd submitted a ticket before has had its mature content flag removed.

The thing about Robby's "Al-Hashimi? What is that?" line is I would bet "Robinavitch? What is that?" is a something he's heard before. Slavic names and Jewish names are both treated as weird, funny, and confusing by a lot of Americans. He also grew up with a Russian surname in the 70s and 80s when the Cold War was still going on.

it’s also important to note that for Jews, meeting someone with a name that is, or looks similar to, “Hashem” can be very confusing. “Hashem” literally translates to “the name” in Hebrew and is one of the most common terms we use for G-d (not “Yahweh” as is a common misconception.) when I first learned that Hashem was a common Jordanian last name, I was completely flomoxed (though unlike Dr. Robby, I had the sense to keep that surprise inside and Google if the words are related. They’re not and are pronounced differently)

That’s a great point! I’m Jewish but I’m not practicing so while I know about Hashem my mind doesn’t immediately go there, but it totally makes sense that it would for a lot of Jews. Also Robby’s last name is related to the word “rabbi” so if anyone would be primed to go there he would.

if you see criticism of racism within your community as criticism of the community as a whole then you have a racist community. sorry.

I love that Leverage really goes out of it’s way to show us that just because you break the ‘rules’, it doesn’t mean you’re breaking the rules. Rules and laws and society are all made up, at the end of the day, and all you really have is your own moral compass and sense of justice; is this just to you? Is it right? Should it be OK for companies to put people in insurmountable debt for the rest of their lives just because our medical care is so expensive in this modern day and age? No law or rule should change what you know in your heart is right and wrong, and I think that’s the key thing that makes someone a good person in my eyes.
