perhaps controversial, but i think msr would be less popular if mulder and scully had a more conventional dating arc. instead, their romance is written almost like queer baiting, built mostly on yearning, stolen moments that never come up again, and emphasis that THEY are absolutely the most important person in the other's life... just enough teases of romance to keep the viewer tantalized... the YEARNING. the space for everyone to project their own interpretation -- they're soulmates, they're best friends, they're married, they're in a QPP, they transcend terms like "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" but not #wifegate. they're partners. they're mulder and scully. they invented love -- but why should their love look like anyone else's?
