Original caption reads: “Outer crust of sedimentary layers and solidified granites 30 miles dep. At 40 miles, maybe layer of basaltic glass. Various layers with abrupt structural changes follow. Core of about 2,000 miles radius, assumed to be of molten metallic iron. All global concepts are still weighed by hypothesis.” (David Rumsey Map Collection)
