#l0mb -- private, plot-based, mutuals only BELLA SWAN from smeyer's twilight series. book & headcanon based. anti-smeyer. rules, verses & canon divergences under cut.
RULES.
if you're asking yourself who makes a new twilight blog in 2024 emily??? you aren't alone. i make no promises for the longevity of this blog (as the muse took me by surprise, i have no clue what to expect in terms of it lasting), but i do promise enthusiasm in the meantime.
that being said: i want to focus on long-form, introspective, (mostly) plotted threads for this blog. bella, as a muse, is very introverted and is rather inactive, and threads focusing more on writing and introspection are easier for her. in terms of content expect: horror; body-horror in the form of pregnancy; frequent discussion of depression and suicide; co-dependent relationships; ... classic gothic horror things.
low effort formatting (for the Aesthetic(tm)) and default sized text. note: i will be using first person in my replies. i don't expect others to do the same; i just can't comprehend writing bella any other way.
the usual: no god-modding; no character-correcting; mutuals-only. minimal formatting and, for the time at least, iconless.
please pay attention to my divergences (see below). twilight, as a series, is rife with racism and conservative beliefs. most of my divergences are made to combat these, while also leaning more into the horror aspect of things.
alternative new moon verse (where the cullens never return) is my primary focus: see below for details. generally speaking, all of my posts and headcanons are done with this verse in mind unless stated otherwise.
overall: just here to have fun and ride the wave of this very unexpected muse development. i don't care if you don't like twilight -- we all ~hate~ twilight -- i don't want to hear about it while discussing my muse from it. it's just a bummer, ya know?
DIVERGENCES & INTERPRETATION NOTES.
i write bella as a black woman. vampires, as a mythological creature, are often used to represent the oppressive class (the white patriarchal elite), and this is an interpretation of them i may lean into, particularly in my vamp!bella verse (where bella lashes out against the cullens. see verses for my info).
bella is depressed and suicidal. the severity of both ranging from mild / passive to severe depending on the point in her timeline. bella deciding between edward and jacob is a metaphor for bella struggling between 'giving in' to her desire for death versus desire for life. her ending up with edward is meant to be a tragedy because it's her succumbing to her depression. bella's passivity toward life is also why she is a "danger magnet;" she is not sensitive toward the supernatural, but she is drawn to it, which causes her to discover it where others might not.
bella is parentified by renee; she is not parentified by charlie. while bella mostly does the cooking when she moves to forks, that's because she enjoys it (and because she gets home first). charlie is a grown man who lived alone for over a decade -- he may not be a good cook, but he can make spaghetti and knows not to put metal in the microwave, and he certainly can take care of himself. the fact that charlie doesn't parentify bella actually causes tension between them because bella, who is used to renee's flippant ways, views it as charlie being overbearing (see: eclipse).
"imprinting" is not an in-universe acceptable form of pedophilia and grooming. whenever i use the term imprinting with the werewolves, it's with the idea that it's a massverse, more immediate, mate-bond type thing, only done between two individuals who can have children together (meaning ... no infants).
renesmee is nessa. bella has never wanted children, does not want children, and that wouldn't change after she suddenly became pregnant so unexpectedly. bella wanted to abort the pregnancy and be immediately turned into a vampire ... but because of how quick the cells were growing, and the indestructible nature of smeyer vampires, they couldn't abort the fetus. since they don't know what turning her while pregnant would do, bella is forced to carry her child, drink human blood to sustain it, and then is killed (then turned) when the baby breaks out of her womb. (basically instead of renesmee being a shitty, mormon, prolife narrative, nessa is the exact opposite about the horrors of being forced to carry a baby you don't want and aren't ready for)
bella is not immune to newborn vampire madness. see my vamp!bella verse for more details, but ... really ... that plotpoint was just so disappointing and stupid.
VERSES
there are two main verses i'm interested in exploring:
no moon au [ primary / default verse ]: the cullens never return to forks. the werewolf pack takes care of victoria. bella graduates high school, remains in forks, and "dates" jacob (she hates the term ~dating~, she hates being referred to as jacob's girlfriend, and never refers to him as her boyfriend, but for all intents and purposes, yes, that's what they do). however, jacob imprints on someone else unexpectedly, and while he first tries to fight it out of loyalty to bella, she tells him not to worry about it, and they break up. bella, realizing she's older now than she's ever thought she'd be, and realizing how all of her life decisions thus far have been decided based on other people, transfers to a college in new england. after a year there, she drops out but remains in the area. she works in an antique stop. she lives in a rented bungalow that's haunted. she manages.
vampire bella: canon complicit until part two of breaking dawn. bella is forced to carry nessa (whom bella doesn't name), despite her desires otherwise, and is turned by nessa after giving birth. traumatized by the recent months, not wanting anything to do with her daughter, and hating the sight of those who (seemingly) sat by and let it happen, bella leaves the cullens. edward follows her, despite her wishes, and much of her early vampire life is trying to escape her husband and then fighting him when they do come together.
other verses will be developed on a case-by-case basis, but one thing always remains the same: bella is always the most normal human. she has no powers, is depressed, and has nothing of much note to offer, but she's there anyway, being attracted to the most deadly things in the area.
