the lone child of the moon had gone through his fair share of small towns . they were always the safest to travel through , USUALLY . his instincts had betrayed him , & he was stuck here until he could get enough money to get the fuck out . turning to the nearest person he could catch eyes with , he started speaking .  “ hey , do you know if there are any job openings around here ? ” 

“honestly, i haven’t got a clue.” bella said as the question hit her ears, eyes meeting another’s. they were new in town, that much bella could tell, but she couldn’t seem to place the scent that came from them. it was like nothing she had encountered before, and she fought to keep the confusion from her face. “i just got back in town myself, but i would check around at the diner, or maybe at newman’s olympic outfitters.”

at the sight of the woman, yvette was instantly flooded with guilt. so many years ago when she stood behind the volturi on account of the other’s daughter. she had been frightened of opposing them, and she would forever regret that. “ it’s….isabella, right? ”

“just bella, but yes, that’s me.” bella said as she looked towards the familiar vampire. she was one of the vampires that they had tried to call on, to help defend her daughter against the volturi but she denied and while bella had once been bitter about those who denied helping them, she had moved on, her grudges gone.

she knew forks would be different than connecticut, while forks didn’t seem like it changed it was different. last time the only vampires in forks were all her family’s allies. now there were vampires in town that hated her family and that scared renesmee. “mom, i don’t know how to say this. i don’t really think some self-defense training will keep me safe from vampires that are all stronger and faster than me. the only hope that i have is that i’m able to hide or hopefully get somewhere safe before they attack me.” renesmee said. the hybrid wished that she could properly defend herself against vampires, but she always knew her human half made her weaker. she just had to hope that none of her parents enemies would go after her to get back at her parents. “i know mom. but i need to be friendly with him if i don’t want anything bad to happen to our family. i don’t want to be the reason our family is killed.” renesmee told her mom.

bella knew it was a long shot with renesmee, teaching her how to fight, but in her opinion it was better than wandering around just hoping to be able to out run some vampire. she felt like she couldn’t rightfully send her daughter out into the world completely unprepared for the reality they lived in now. “renesmee, i understand the apprehension but i worry about you, and i worry that one of us won’t be able to get there fast enough in case anything could happen.” bella explained, lifting a hand to touch her daughter’s cheek. “i can’t bare the thought of something happening to you, and this might help you more than you think. especially if uncle jasper taught you.” she went on before stepping back. “renesmee, honey, you aren’t not going to be the reason our family is killed. nothing is going to happen to us at all. please don’t worry about those things.”

bree always was afraid of victoria and riley coming back, she betrayed them and was afraid of the consequences. she knew that not fighting the cullens was a good thing after they lied to her and killed diego. but she also saw what happened to newborns who made riley mad. and bree was defenseless just like last time, so she knew that she wouldn’t be able to fight off victoria or riley. she followed bella to a safer location for them to talk in. “i woke up where i was killed, but i was all alone and starving. while it felt like i was only gone for a second, my thirst was as bad as if i hadn’t fed for a while.” she explained to bella. “i told myself that i wouldn’t hunt a human, so i instead killed a deer. it was a weird taste to get use to, but now i don’t mind it. and i’ve been staying in forks watching for any other newborns to return. that way i can try to make them understand the actual world. but i had yet to see any sign of victoria, riley, or the newborn army.”

the entire fight between the newborns and her family was now a fading memory, parts were clearer than others, but most was blurred. and for that, she had to admit, she was thankful. she wasn’t looking over her shoulder with the fears of her past, but now, with the realization that vampires were returning.. bella felt some of that fear rise in her chest. would that mean that victoria, or james could be coming back too? “was anyone else there when you woke up?” bella asked, trying to understand how this works, if they were coming back in force or slowly. although, as bree went on about her new diet, an impressed smile crossed her lips. “bree, that’s really impressive, to be able to jump into vegetarianism without any guidance. i’m sure you’ll be able to help anyone who wants the help, with that kind of strength.” she explained, a bit of relief washing over her with her reassurance. “that’s a relief. riley we can handle, victoria is the one we need to watch out for.”

“it may be perfect for you but not for me.” the vampire expressed, crimson hues meeting her golden ones. hearing her words caused her to roll her eyes with annoyance. “i’m well aware of the way things work in this little town. you don’t have to worry about me breaking your laws.” octavia usually didn’t care about this but for the sake of everyone she was going to be civil with the locals for now.

“to each their own.” bella shrugged, eyes narrowing however at the other’s reaction. she was sure her family couldn’t be a little overbearing when it came to their rules, but it was the only way they could keep forks from becoming a bloodbath. “i’m sure it’s sounding like a broken record, but it eases our family’s mind to know we’ve put the warning out.”

His shoulders rolled into a CASUAL stretch, as his lips curled, BRIGHTENING his dimpled face. “Ah- sorry, I didn’t hear you?” a hand moved to scratch the back of his head INNOCENTLY as if he really hadn’t heard. 

“ya know emmett, a decade ago, i just might have believed that.” bella rolled her eyes, her usual response to most things emmett said. “seriously, where did my book go?”

‘ how lovely it is to have returned to this quaint little town with the dreaded rain. the weather’s all over the place. ‘

“it’s the winter, one minute it can be a full downpour, and then it’ll start snowing without warning. it’s always smart just to keep an umbrella on you.”

“—i think we have a different definition of charming then.”

“you might be right there, but forks really isn’t that bad at all. you just can’t go comparing it to places like moscow.”

“ i knew i shouldn’t have adopted such an adorable dog, pretty soon everyone will want to spend time with him instead of me. you’ve gotten promise you won’t let him slowly take over my life, i think he’s been plotting my death the whole time he’s been living with me. ooo and promise me that i can go to france with you when you go for the first time. i’ve been practicing my french, listen, ” she said, clearing her throat. “ pamplemousse. it means it’s nice to meet you or something like that. i’m not too sure, but i promise i’ll figure it out before we go. ” bella’s final words struck close to home with her. for a while, she had been second guessing her entire existence, wondering if she had been too over the top or too much for people. but bella, one of the quietest and most understated people she knew, enjoyed spending time with her. that was enough to make her happy for now. “ i’m stuck on you like velcro, you’re the fuzzy side and i’m the spiky side. and you’re not getting rid of me easily. ”

“i’ll keep a close eye on him, he won’t be able to get anything past me.” bella laughed, nodding her head. “without a doubt, it would be much more fun going with someone who hasn’t been before than just being dragged around by alice the whole time along.” she added, raising her eyebrows. whatever jessica had said, did not sound right at all, but bella only knew some conversational spanish, most of it forgotten with her human memories. “maybe we should buy one of those language books, just in case.” bella shrugged, her hands still clutched around her coffee as she looked towards her friend. they had been friends for years now, and even though when they first met, bella had thought she was a little over enthusiastic, it grew to be one of the things she loved the most about jessica. “i’ve accepted my fate with a smile by now.”

renesmee was use to having freedom in connecticut once she was full grown. she had nothing to worry about there. no one really knew of the woods, except for a few covens. so no vampires every crossed their paths while there. but since coming back to forks, there were so many different vampires and cotm; that renesmee had no idea who was friendly. she was always afraid that just by walking down the street she could get hurt or killed by someone who had something against the cullens. “i didn’t let him touch me. you know that if he does i wouldn’t let him.” she said. renesmee looked around, and placed her hand on her mom’s. “i would do this, that way i can choose what he sees.” she thought in her head so her mom would hear it. she moved her hand way from her mother’s. “he was kind.. like different than the last time we saw him.”

bella definitely felt bad that she couldn’t let renesmee have the safe freedom she was used to, but she hoped that she would understand in the long run. that she would know that they weren’t trying to put her directly in danger but that needed to come back, to protect forks from whatever storm was brewing. but it wasn’t connecticut, and bella felt like they needed to start acting like it. “maybe we should teach you some self defense.. not that i expect anything to happen, but it might make you feel safe. especially if you know what you can do.” she suggested, before focusing back on the volturi. “good. he doesn’t need to see anything about your life. your mind is your own first.” she said, taking her daughter’s hand and squeezing it as renesmee’s voice filled her head. “i know, honey. i just don’t like the idea of him even being close enough for that either.” she explained as their hands moved apart, confusion furrowing her brow. “well, at least that’s a step in the right direction. i wouldn’t trust his kindness though. when your father and i were in volterra he went from being kind, to ordering our death and directly back to kind.”

forks had always been the cullens home, it has been safe from all the supernatural world, until now. renesmee hoped that with everything going on forks would remain unchanged. that the supernatural creatures wouldn’t destroy such a wonderful town. and with almost the whole volturi in forks, she knew that things would start slowly get worse and worse. “i was on my way home after getting some school supplies. and i kind of saw him on the street,and we talked a little bit.” she explained to bella. renesmee tried to be as calm as possible with her mom, trying not to worry her too much.

bella had always tried to let renesmee be independent, and back in connecticut, it was easier to let her go out on her own. to be her own person. there was less danger there than forks. and now, with the idea that her daughter ran into aro, bella felt a draw to hide her away. to keep her away from anything that could be dangerous. but it was unrealistic, she couldn’t lock her daughter away, and she wouldn’t. she’d just have to find some other way to protect her. “what did he say? you didn’t let him touch you, right?” if aro had laid a hand on her daughter.. she tried to stay calm but it was growing more difficult. she would just have to hide it from renesmee.

the main reason bree stayed in forks was waiting to see if any of the other newborns returned. she wanted to make sure if they did, that they didn’t cause chaos to forks. since like her, none of them would know the laws that the volturi had put in place. “i didn’t think it was either. but then like two months ago i woke up, like nothing had happen.” she explained. bree looked around the busy coffee shop, knowing that this conversation was best left for a more private location. “of course, just lead the way.” she told bella. she was really happy to see that bella wasn’t made at her for the mistake she made over ten years ago. bree wanted nothing more than to ask all the cullens for forgiveness for her actions.

to say bella was shocked would be an understatement. she tried to control it, to keep herself calm as the panic was mounting. it had nothing to do with bree, in fact she was happy to know bree was getting a second chance, but the thoughts of victoria or james coming back, she couldn’t shake it. bella stood as bree spoke, nodding. “however it happened, i’m glad you’re alright.” bella admitted as they left the shop. she didn’t know bree, not really, but she knew that she didn’t want to kill her, that she didn’t want anything to do with riley and victoria’s plan. that esme and the rest of the cullens were prepared to take her into the family and that was enough for bella. “so, no one was around when you woke up? what happened?”
