"arden? quick question?" she tried to keep her voice casual, the same way she'd talk to kai or mickey, but she was sure arden could tell how much her pulse started to race every time they talked. she was sure they were used to it - after all, kennedy was a girl in a band, but arden was a real life rock star. once she had their attention, she gestured down to her feet, where she wore a cowboy boot on the left and a black platform boot on the right. "what do you think?"
a small smile flickers onto their face as they recognize the voice calling their name as kennedy's, taking their airpods out of their ears to fully listen to the woman in front of them. their eyes track down to where kennedy is gesturing towards, and that small smile grows into something closer to a grin. "i think i need more information: are you asking me which one i prefer or if i think you can pull off the mismatched shoe angle?"
with the command, birdie is a woman on a mission, snaking her way through the tiny crowd of people in VIP to the bar, where she had a rather animated conversation with the bartender. she comes back with a real towel, and two drinks in hand. she hands the towel to arden. " i come bearing gifts! and apologies. um, just... our manager is here somewhere, and i will pay for all any any replacements. just tell them where it's from. do you like long island iced teas? " now she holds up the glass. " i've heard they're called that because they get you L-I-T, but that sounds a little frat boy cringe. so. "
arden remains in their place, taking deep breaths and walking themselves back from the ledge of overstimulation. it's not the best sensation, but they really are trying not to let it ruin their evening. they take the towel from birdie's hands, using it to dab at some of the liquid. it's not very helpful, but it's the thought that counts. right? "great, thanks," arden says, trying their hardest not to sound curt and failing pretty spectacularly. "i'll be in touch." eventually, they give up with the towel, throwing it over one shoulder and looking at the glass that birdie is holding out to them. "damn, you trying to get me so drunk i don't remember this tomorrow?" they joke, before taking the glass and taking a large sip of it. "ahhhhh, tastes like a frat party. is this usually your, uh, drink of choice?"
ruby rolled their eyes before turning around to face arden. again with the dramatics! they really just could not understand what the huge deal was. wouldn't her friends want her to succeed? damn! "hey, if it works, it works! but i'm probably not leaving just yet, i wanna see how this all works out.," they responded earnestly - really just hoping the truth will get through arden's thick skull.
"works is a word for it, jury's still out on if it's 'worked' for you yet," they respond, their tone pointed and loaded with the weight of what they're not saying. they want to ask about gemma, about haeri, about how it feels to perform with some of the people they've known for what feels like forever. they don't say any of that, instead replying with: "because things with us weren't working out for you? should warn your bandmates that you run away when things get hairy, don't want them getting too comfortable."
lucky can see the gears churning in arden's head, or at least she imagines she can. they're both all-too-aware of the eyes that follow. haeri pastes on a convincing smile and responds through gritted teeth. "because, babes, i'm just as excited to show everyone there's no bad blood between clover and mulholland drive as yemi is." did arden not have to sit through a powerpoint presentation? she's going to kill yemi. or arden. or both of them.
their teeth grind against each other in an effort to avoid literally biting their tongue (they're already doing it metaphorically). "have you been telling everyone we have bad blood? i don't think we have bad blood." of course they have bad blood, of course things are weird between them, but arden blinks a few times innocently, curious as to what lucky will say in return, if she'll say the quiet part out loud.

open starter ! the only thing better than being on stage at glastonbury, birdie had decided, was being in the crowd at glastonbury. she's at least two beers and she's not sure how many open-bar cocktails from VIP, with another one balanced in her hand as she sings and dances her heart out to the band on stage. a real band, is what birdie would ordinarily think, lamenting moodily that they were making the music they want and playing the instruments they've been playing their whole lives. luckily, drinks and nerves and the music coursing through her was enough to stave off the thrum of negativity that always beat against her skull.
it also strips her of enough self awareness she doesn't realize she's spilled her drink all down the front of the person next to her until it's too late. " oh my god, " she moans, already imagining how this will surely earn her their ire forever. " i totally did not mean to give you a baptism by bahama mama. i'm so sorry. " @supernovainfo
arden can't help but laugh at the sensation of the drink spilling down their clothing, the sound coming out somewhere between a giggle and a scoff. if this had happened a decade ago, they would have caused a scene, but instead, they're able to swallow their annoyance and slap a feigned smile on their face. "right, no harm done, as long you didn't, like, actually baptize me." they put the glass in their hand down on the ground. "here, you can make it up to me by finding me a paper towel and footing the dry cleaning bill."
@supernovainfo || haeri resisted the urge to roll her eyes at the incessant buzzing of her phone in her purse. the only reason it wasn't in her hands for once was so she could avoid her managers reminders about all the photos she needed to get for her insta dump, but she would not let up. with a sigh, haeri ditched her vip balcony view of whatever afternoon set was on stage and sidled up to her nearest tour mate. "we have to take a picture," she said without greeting or fanfare.
arden's absent-mindedly scrolling twitter when haeri lucky approaches them, and the expression that settles onto their face immediately is one of armor. they want to grimace, to laugh in the woman's face about this being how she chooses to break the ice, but there are people around them and roles to play, and arden's acutely aware of the amount of eyes that are on them all. they clear their throat. "do we now? and why's that?" they ask, figuring playing hard to get is more polite than flat out refusing.
@supernovainfo // with a bag of ridiculously expensive popcorn, ruby looked out into the crowd from the vip stand. they turned to the person next to them with a glint of mischief in their eyes. "what are the chances i could get one of the bands to let me stage dive during their set?"
arden's nostrils flare as they overhear ruby's comment behind them, the annoyance within them already starting to build. "why?" they ask, mostly under their breath, but definitely loud enough for the other to hear. "you hoping they'll let you join them? makes sense that you're already looking to leave your new band behind too. third time's the charm, right?"
it's not the best place to take a call, a relatively small enclosure filled with too many people trying to know everybody. but they manage to find a spot, somewhere towards the back that's empty enough to be unappealing to anyone trying to network. kai stares at their phone for a few seconds, on 'milo 👽' taking up the phone screen, but she answers and is met with the chorus of her two brothers greeting her. kai barely gets a word out before they're bombarding her with questions about england and the festival and if she's seen anyone famous. with a chuckle, they do their best to answer the questions, and for a few minutes, the anxiety lessens and it feels like before, when kai would be on the road and she'd spend almost every night–show or no show–catching up with her family, even if only for a couple minutes.
it doesn't last long, only a matter of time before her father's on the other end and despite his well wishes, kai can clearly hear her mother in the back telling everyone they need to leave for lunch. shaking her head, she tells her father it's okay, ❛ tell tita aimee i said happy birthday. ❜ okay, anak. ingat ka. love you. kai doesn't even get to respond in kind before the call drops. with a sigh, kai rubs at their temples. her phone buzzes and she sees a picture from milo, a 0.5 with him, kyle, and their father–their mother apparently too busy talking to another tito in the background to join. i need a drink. so kai begins to stalk back the way she came, phone held tightly in her hand, when she bumps into someone.
kai's ready to tell them off, bring out some of that moody asshole energy they're known for, but then she notices who it is. arden lin-aarons. lead singer of mulholland drive. they hadn't really crossed paths in a meaningful way, much less spoken before, so kai's shocked when arden makes a quip about murdering management. she feels arden drop her arm, not even having noticed they'd grabbed it in the first place. damn. they really needed a drink. their eyes harden at the clear amusement on arden's face. ❛ it's nothing that concerns you, ❜ she bites, shoving her phone into her back pocket before crossing her arms. ❛ guess you should find your entertainment somewhere else. shouldn't be too hard considering. ❜
arden doesn’t flinch at the tone, nor at the bite behind it, not even at the way kai folds into herself like a drawn blade. if anything, something in their expression settles, their amusement softening at the edges into something quieter, more deliberate. they’ve seen this before, not with kai, but they know the posture of it, the armor. “right,” arden says easily, like they’ve just been told the weather might turn. “my mistake. clearly a very private, completely uninteresting crisis.” their hands lift in a small, semi-conceding gesture: palms open, no threat, no push.
the noise from the festival swells behind them, a cheer cresting and breaking somewhere beyond the barricades. it fills the space kai’s defensiveness leaves behind, but arden doesn’t rush to cover it. instead, they tilt their head slightly, studying her. “relax,” they add, voice even and unbothered. “if i really wanted entertainment, i wouldn’t be back here. there's much lower odds of getting verbally stabbed by strangers near the bar.” arden shifts their weight, shoulder brushing lightly against the fencing behind them. “i was aiming for five minutes of quiet,” they continue, glancing past kai toward the path they'd come from. “just-. next time you wanna bite someone’s head off, you should probably pick someone who actually deserves it, yeah?”
where: the vip enclosure, glastonbury festival
when: midday, a handful of hours before mulholland drive performs
with: @tokaireyes
the vip enclosure at glastonbury is less a room and more a… curated illusion. velvet ropes are staked into mud, polished chrome tables are sinking crooked into the grass, and expensive sunglasses and laminate passes move like schools of fish through clouds of cigarette smoke. somewhere beyond the partition walls, a crowd roars for a band arden can't name from the first three chords alone, and the bass from a neighboring stage rolls through the ground hard enough to rattle the ice in unattended drinks. it's all noise, all movement, exactly the sort of place where no one notices if someone wants to disappear. arden's been trying to do just that. they slip past a cluster of influencers pretending not to stare at mulholland drive’s drummer, skirt around a publicist already halfway through a stress cry into her headset, and reach for the relative quiet near the back fencing, only to collide shoulder-first with someone coming the other direction. “shit, sorry.” the apology comes automatically, arden’s hand already lifting to steady the stranger by the elbow before they really look at them.
kai reyes. they know her the way everyone on the label knows one another: through glossy rollout photos, half-heard gossip in rehearsals, names on festival billing sheets. drummer for do not disturb, the one marketed like she’d been carved from shadows and bad decisions, all moody eyes and unreadable silences, a mystery wrapped in leather and stage lighting. except up close, none of that myth holds together. she looks tense in the most human way possible, phone gripped too hard in one hand, and arden’s gaze flicks to the screen before manners catch up with curiosity. “well,” they say, mouth curving despite themself, “either you’re about to go onstage, get fired, or murder your management.” they let go of her arm, stepping back enough to give them space but not enough to dismiss her entirely. “please say it’s the third one. it’d make this place more interesting.”

( jessie mei li, 31, non-binary, they/them ) ☆ all the way from LOS ANGELES, CA, supernova records is excited to welcome ARDEN LIN-AARONS! as our resident PINK PONY CLUB, you remind us of glitter-stained skin, late-night confessions, stage lights through cigarette smoke, and wearing lipstick as armor. you’re also expected to be OUTSPOKEN and RESILIENT at all times. we know you tend to be COMPETITIVE and AVOIDANT as well, but let’s do our best to keep that under wraps, okay? we look forward to ensuring you shine under our guidance!
@supernovainfo / hello hello! i am so excited to be here on tour with you all i cannot wait to get started. i'll be working on building a more formal character history in the next few weeks, but for now, what better way to get to know arden than through the mask they put on for the world via their...
𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐀 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖.
tell us about yourself! where are you from and what has your life been like before now?
arden leans back in their chair like they’ve already decided how this is going to go. one boot is hooked on the rung of their stool, and their rings catch the light as they drag a hand through their hair. there’s a smile on their face, easy and practiced, but it doesn’t feel fake. (well, not exactly.) “god, okay. tell you about myself...” they echo, like they’re buying time, then huff out a quiet laugh. “i’m arden. arden lin-rose, if you’re being formal about it. i’m from los angeles, which means i’ve spent my entire life thinking i’m immune to bullshit and then being proven wrong in increasingly creative ways.” their mouth quirks. “i grew up loud. like, obnoxiously loud. my family used to call me ‘big mouth,’ which-” they gesture vaguely, “-clearly did nothing to discourage me. i was that kid who always had something to say, even when i shouldn’t. especially when i shouldn’t. and i figured out pretty early on that if you say things confidently enough, people either listen or they get the fuck out of your way.” there's a beat, and their fingers tap absently against their knee. “music wasn’t, like, some divine calling or whatever. it was just… the first place that made sense? the first place being loud wasn’t a problem, it was the point. so when i found out my sister felt the same, we started making noise in garages and hole-in-the-wall venues, and then somehow that turned into this whole thing.” they gesture outward, meaning the tour, the cameras, the weight of it all. “mulholland drive’s been my life for a long time. longer than anything else, really.”
is there anything about you that you think would surprise the fans?
“something that would surprise people…” arden hums, smile thinning into something more thoughtful. “i think people assume i know exactly who i am. like i wake up every day and i’m just, i don't know, like fully formed? no notes, no doubts, completely solid.” they exhale softly, almost a laugh, but not quite. “i don’t. i just got really good at looking like i do.” they glance off-camera for a second, then back, expression brightening just enough to pass. “i’m actually pretty quiet when i’m alone. which feels illegal to admit, but there you go. i like… not performing, sometimes. i just don’t always know what to do with that version of myself yet.” their shoulders lift in a small shrug, like it’s not a big deal. like it isn’t something they think about more than they should.
what advice do you have for others who want to follow in your footsteps?
“advice? don’t follow in my footsteps,” they say immediately, almost too quick. then they laugh, softer this time. “no, seriously. don’t try to be anybody else. you’ll always be worse at it than they are, and you’ll make yourself miserable in the process.” they lean forward slightly, elbows on their knees now, voice dropping just a touch. “figure out what you actually care about. not what looks good, not what gets attention, not what people clap for. find the thing that makes you feel a little sick, a little exposed, like maybe you shouldn’t be saying it out loud. that’s usually the right direction.” a moment passes, and then the grin is back, easy, disarming. “and get comfortable embarrassing yourself. publicly. and repeatedly. it builds character. and, if you’re lucky, a career.”

𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘.
arden lin-rose is the voice you hear before you see, loud and glittering and impossible to ignore. as the lead singer of mulholland drive, they’ve built a career on being unapologetically visible: queer, outspoken, and sharp enough to cut through any room they walk into. fans see them as fearless, a performer who turns identity into spectacle and spectacle into something that feels like truth. but arden’s confidence is, in many ways, a well-rehearsed act. beneath the stage lights, they are someone who has spent their entire life defining themselves in opposition, and now struggles to understand who they are without an audience to push against. their voice has always been their power, but it’s also their shield. as the supernova world tour unfolds, arden finds themselves caught between loyalty to the band that made them, complicated feelings for someone who once made them softer, and the quiet, growing fear that they don’t know what they actually want.
