Sylvie and her mom used to grow the basic berries (oran, cheri, rawst, aspear, chesto, pecha, persim, and leppa) in their garden. Kingsley often came home during his journey to stock up on berries for the next leg. Because Sylvie had no pokémon of her own, berry farming was more of a hobby than a need. When she graduated high school, she stopped gardening in favor of reading and writing.
Now that she works at Berry Grove and has a partner pokémon in Pie, her skills in berry farming have expanded. She can grow more difficult berries, take down the pests she always struggled with, and use the berries to craft pokéblocks for her appletun and their friends. Battling the pests has helped her develop a strong bond with Pie, and her partner gets to snack on the bug pokémon to supplement her diet. She ends up feeling fulfilled at the end of each day, even if this wasn’t her original plan.
