how to shrink and dink

Draw an outline in black sharpie. If you’re using frosted shrinky dink (or want to sandpaper your shrinky dink paper to make it frosted) you can also color them with colored pencils. If you don’t trust you’re drawing skills and are using clear shrinky dink, you can trace!

After you draw, cut out your project. I like to give it a slight border. If you want it to have a hole to attach it to an earring or keychain make a hole punch size or larger hole now.

Heat oven to 350 degrees F, and prepare a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Then place shrinky dinks drawing side up, several inches apart. (I only do 2-3 at a time)

At this time, also prepare a pressing area— a flat surface like the counter and the bottom of a pot usually works for me. Make sure both surfaces are clean.

Give them 1-3 minutes in the oven, however long it takes them to curl up as then nearly (if not fully) flatten out. If it takes a bit longer, wait a bit.  Ideally your oven has a window so you can watch them shrink and dink.

When you pull them out, they’ll be a little hot, but immediately take them off the foil and press them between two flat surfaces.
