My ranking of best moms in animated cinema, a motherâs day special.
Considering that in my country, in may 10th itâs the motherâs day, I want to do my ranking of what I consider the best mothers of animated cinema. Also it can be considerated like they are my favorite ones instead of the best mothers. But however, lets beguin:
3° Place: Odette from Ballerina/Leap! movie
Totally she deserves to be in this ranking. At the beginning itâs just the mentor who will help FĂ©licie to become a dancer and also she was only a total grumpy cat. But while the movie goes on, she started to take also a motherâs role for FĂ©licie, to become fond of with this redheaded girl.Â
What I most love from her is how sweet she becomes. Itâs the type of mother everyone wants to have. How she becomes selfless, devoted and protective, how she gives everything she has to FĂ©licie, even if her studen can become a little rude with her. We heard it from Regine, she practically feeds FĂ©licie with her own and poor salary, she gave her a roof to pass the nights, a bed where she can sleep, even if FĂ©licie lied to her, she still covered her against Regine, teaches her ballet and not only ballet, she teaches her wise lesson of life, she supported her every time, most when she as discovered, she even give to her her favorite ballet shoes and she gives unconditionally love to her. She takes the risk of loosing everything, even FĂ©licieâs love, even her job, just to make an unknown orphan happy.Â
Her maternal relationship with FĂ©licie itâs too tender and touching. That is the reason why parts like âYouâre not my momâ or when FĂ©licie is taken back to the orphanage hurt us too much; their relationship the reason why many of us see the movie.Â
Odette teach us that mothers always give us everything they have to help us to have an insured good life and grow in a good enviroment, just for the pleasure to see us like happy and successful individuals.
2° Place: Queen Elinor from Brave movie
What I like of this movie is that we can have a more close look to a motherâs thought. While queen Elinor wants to be a devoted and affectionate mother, she also has the worry to be a good queen. Two things that can be a terrible contrast. Maybe she wants MĂ©rida to be happy, but knowing she is the heir of the throne, she canât take the risk to neglect in her daughter what she thinks itâs the accurate behavior of a princess.Â
Subject in the old traditions, she believes what she teaches to MĂ©rida itâs good, edifying and will make her a strong, dignified and respectable queen as she was (because, if we are honest, who really rules the kingdom itâs her) She better than anyone knows that having a good education can make you a respectable ruler.Â
But, I donât like the way Disney exaggerated many of her behavior, mostly many of her movements doesnât look credible to me.
As many of mothers, she thinks that MĂ©rida needs to become like her, she thinks that itâs convenient. But, lately she discovers that MĂ©rida can become also a great queen as she is, as her mode.
We can also see that she is not delicate, but very strong and if we may say so, brave. As the mother she is, she will never doubt a second to protect and defend what she values most in life: her daughter.
Elinor taught us that even if mothers make mistakes and can want to make us perfect with making us like them, we must value their advices, lessons, because it would help us in life. We donât need to be like our mothers, but they deserve to be listened.Â
And for me, the 1° Place takes it: Mamå Imelda from Coco.
I must be honest, but she is a great mother. Letâs start with when HĂ©ctor leaves Imelda and Coco alone and then never returns, Imelda didnât stop there. She was hurted, alone and sad, with a daughter to take care by her own, but she didnât stop there. It only make her move on.
Coco was her main motivation to keep going. To give her a future and a good life, she never waited for being rescued, I can say that she puts the shoes on and started to walk. She made by her own a shop and started a business of her own to provide to her daughter a good life.Â
Then she didnât stop with Coco only. She started to help her grandchilds too and, thanks to Imelda, a whole generation of Riveras were saved.Â
Due to Imelda, Miguel was able to born in a stable condition, with a family and a future.Â
Even after death, Imelda continues supporting her family without break. She dedicate her whole life - and her death - to make all her relatives have a chance in life. She even wants to help Miguel all the time, she even forgives HĂ©ctor for what she thought he did. Sheâs the real leader.
Imelda is an accurate example of those fighters of today, those single mothers that want to provide to their childrens a chance in life, the happiness that was denied to them. They would do anything and risk everything to give the world sons and daughters ready to fight the lifeâs cruelties and make the world better, following the steps of those who teached them in a beginning how to never give up and never bend the knee before the troubles, but to stand up and resist with courage.
So, this is my personal ranking of the best mothers in animated films. But, if you think I forgot someone to deserve to be in this list, you are free to put them in and letâs make a tribute to our mothers that make our lives better every day with their love and dedication.
