one thing i will never quite understand is the dislike for high times hard times from 92sies,, like worst original song has always been so crazy to me
im extremely easy to please with musicals so if it isnt ur song no big deal, but ive always felt like it's such a fun upbeat number?? & breaks up such a long stretch of the movie with no music so it feels like fresh air when im watching the movie
plus, when the newsies join in i always get goosebumps,, meddas providing some hope, live music, community, and fun to those kids in their time of need </3 (their hard time, if you will)

Every time I rewatch Newsies I think about the Sarah haters and how stupid they sound.
"She doesn't have a personality" Oh sureee but that one background character that you gave a whole backstory to, when they really only have 2 seconds of screen time, has a fully developed personality right? Im convinced we didn't watch the same movie like :/ Absolutely no hate to people who love their background characters but you cannot love them and then say this stupid stuff about Sarah. You just can't.
"She gets in the way of Javid." This one really pisses me off especially because it's so common for people to say. It baffles me because is Sarah just a love interest? Does she not have a whole personality to you? Or are you just gonna skip over that so you can ship Jack and David? Do not get me wrong I adore Javid, the ship itself is very wonderful but I hate the Javid shippers who hate on Jarah. Just shut up.
And there's so many more "reasons" why they hate on her (these are just the two I saw the most from scrolling for a little bit). All of them are so so stupid and are so rooted in misogyny.

the misinterpretation of Crutchy as being a naive little innocent baby never ceases to piss me off I don't get how it's such a common misinterpretation. He's a kiss ass. (that sounds rude but I mean it affectionately) like do people seriously think he's nice to Weisel and The Delancey's and Snyder because he's pure of heart and unaware that they're mistreating him???? nooooooo noooo it's his survival mechanism. so many of the newsies resort to things like deceit/trickery, charm, and aggression to survive the horrible conditions they have to live and work under. Being disabled obviously limits most forms of physical aggression or intimidation that newsies like spot and back exhibit. which means he has to over-rely on the other two, charm and deceit. which we see both of in the movie. like we see him distract Snyder so Jack can get back on the roof, we hear that he messes with Snyders food, and so on. But there comes a point where the safest bet for him as a disabled person is that he has to suck up to the people with more power than him. why he's even trying to kiss up to the Delanceys when they're dragging him across the ground. He's not even like happy go lucky optimistic, his introduction itself is pretty cynical ",there's so many fake cr*** on the street, a real cr** ain't got a chance" . But so many fans don't acknowledge his deceit or his cynicism , all they focus on is his kiss ass behaviors which they the misinterpret as innocence.
Crutchy isn't blind to the horrors of being an exploited, disabled child (and likely an orphan or runaway) in poverty. He's simply adapted to those horrors in a different way than most, because he had to.
Anyone ever think about the line “We's as free as fishes” from Newsies?
Because they are free as fishes. Free to go where ever they want in the water, yet still confined to the pond. They have free reign of New York but that’s all they’ll ever have. They can’t climb the social ladder, they will never be more than what society makes of them. They are free, but only within a certain area that was made for them, made to trap them. Forever free yet forever stuck
