in the film he is occasionally called "Davey," however off the top of my head it is by

Crutchy (who gets a pass, and also very often uses "Dave")

Sarah (who is entitled to the name as his big sister)

and the Delanceys (mockingly)

I don't understand why the name is so overused in the newsical, but honestly it may have been so that there was no confusion between David the character and the repeated David and Goliath references

- wiesel keeps his cudgel “close at hand” when the boys are just?? trying to buy their papers?? jack calls him pussycat

- wiesel is physically abusive to morris, hitting him and knocking him to the floor

- davey: “we were taught not to lie” jack: “i was taught not to starve to death in the gutter! who ya gonna believe?”

- action of jack looking at the jacobs’ apartment is described as “a home. to him the taj mahal. food on the stove, sheets on the bed. home. it hits him hard.”

- mayer and sarah are raging socialists!! mayer reads from eugene debs’ work

- jack says he can’t sleep in the bottom bunk (hammock) and needs the top one . horse & wagon sound trigger a nightmare of michael’s death. jack wakes in a sweat and secretly goes to look at his family photo for a while

- spot calls jack “sullivan”, implying he knew him Before

- esther hits david in the face when she learns about the strike

- jack describes michael as “this kid, like les, but younger.” later, when jack scabs, les hits him in the mouth and draws blood; a cop retaliates against les, whose head strikes a wagon wheel, triggering a horrifying flashback for jack of michael’s death. he throws himself on his knees, picks up les, and carries him. les’ blood covers his new clothes. he pays for the doctor.

- francis malcolm sullivan. snyder tells him he’s “already responsible for the death of his brother”. snyder wants to put him in the refuge until he sees fit; jack begs to be sent to the adult prison instead

- when jack is taken to meet up with pulitzer the guy just grabs his face; seitz holds him still as pulitzer examines him

- when david sees jack as a scab, he hits him in the face. jack doesn’t resist. he just says “i can’t afford to be a kid no more”

- jack (intense, aggressive) i ain't lying. i just ain't telling you the truth. i know my brother's dead. i know what's real. (walks away, stops) it’s easier sometimes to make up a family then to have a one.

- jack, lying: “being alone don’t scare me.”
