Vintage Nightclub Documents

Olivia 2011 - (early work)- Inspired by Modigliani- Since artists like Picasso and the school of thought that would later come to be known as “cubism”, were to all intents and purposes almost entirely inspired by African sculptures and masks. Naturally, I was attracted to painters like Modigliani among others whose African inspired portraits immediately resonated with me since the age of about16. I added some examples of Modigliani’s portraits of women with that odd tilt of elongated almost caricatured yet beautifully feminine necks.

I also added Picassos Demoiselles D’Avignon from the early 1900′s, the beginning of the cubist era, where you can see the African inspiration very clearly…
