fun military trivia: during the battle of the bulge in 1944, the germans took english-speaking soldiers, dressed them in american uniforms, and infiltrated them behind american lines in order to wreak havoc. to help them out, the infiltrators were issued fake american documents, including identification passes. the problem, however, was that they copied the documents too well. for whatever reason, all american identification passes had a typo on them, where “identification” was spelled as “indentification.” however, whoever prepared the german fakes decided to correct the typo, providing american soldiers with a foolproof way of checking if a document was real. for once, american stupidity saved the day.

usually i can understand the fear factor of horror movie monsters but a mummy is one that has never landed with me. its slow as fuck and location specific. thats like one zombie. zombies are only scary because theres a lot and there can always be more. and they could be anywhere. but a mummy. thats at the pyramid. i wouldnt go to a pyramid. this isnt a problem i have to worry about. why would. a mummy come here

When I saw this photo I was sure it had been altered in some way, because no way you get so many different diatoms so artfully arranged on a slide. It's uncredited so I had to use image search and found out that all those tiny diatom shells were arranged by hand by W. Watson&Sons and photographed by Martin Mach sometime around 2000. One reblogger thinks it's from Contemporary Artistic Arrangements Of Microscopic Diatoms by Klaus Kemp, but it's 14 years too late for that. This photo has been circulating the internet since at least 2008. Klaus Kemp's arrangements are very beautiful though.
