âWhen I got my first cat, it changed me. There is something about holding a cat that makes your anger melt away. And if someone does something that upsets meâI have to remember my cat. I canât keep my cat if I get into trouble.â
âI asked if Major Cabanaw had concerns for the safety of the cats. âOf course, we always want to ensure the safety of the cats, and the staff is great about keeping an eye out for them. But mostly, itâs the offenders keeping them safe. I have never once seen an offender kill his own cat. We screen them to be sure they have no history of animal abuse. But Iâll tell you this, there was a guy killed in here because he had spit soda pop onto someone elseâs cat.ââ
Wow.
Cats now control the prisons. They now have an army.
This post went exactly where I expected. Well done.
Bus seats in Finland - for the unsocial people, like me.
Rule number one in Finnish public transport culture: Donât sit next to anyone. Unless the seats are like this. In every other cases fill the spots from window seats. Then standing up seats. If the bus gets crowded sit next to someone but sit as far as possible from the other person and turn your head to look to the completely different direction. Donât say a word. And if youâre the one sitting next to window pray all the gods that the other person leaves before you, because otherwise youâd have to speak to him/her. Usually itâs something like âUmm..ileavenowâ. Remember, no sorries or smiles. Just say it as low and fast as possible without making any eye contact.Â
legit advise for people visiting finland. that âileavenowâ is âmä jään täsâ in finnish. itâs okay if you donât pronounce it perfectly right because the only reason someone would talk to strangers in public transport is to ask them to move, so they will get the hint.Â
BUT! usually just things like putting your phone away and rustling your bag and looking like you are about to leave will do the trick. no need for words.
âŚ.and this is how you wait for a bus in finland:
Reblogging because of that picture. So true. And familiar.
This is the most bizarre thing Iâve ever seenâŚwhat the actual fuck. It almost seems like a joke but I feel like itâs actually serious????

@rarepepeirwin Is this the truth????
@kxnken Nora this canât be real
from http://finland.fi/life-society/a-guide-to-finnish-customs-and-manners/ âFinns rarely enter into conversation with strangers, unless a particularly strong impulse prompts it. As foreigners often note, Finns are curiously silent in the metro, the bus or the tram. In lifts, they suffer from the same mute embarrassment as everyone else in the world. However, a visitor clutching a map will have no trouble in getting advice on a street corner or in any other public place, since the hospitality of Finns easily overrides their customary reserve.â
from https://lifeinfinland.wordpress.com/2012/05/02/bus-etiquette/ âFinns prefer as little contact as possible so on entering the bus, avoid eye contact with everyone, including the driver. In Helsinki if you greet the driver people will immediately know youâre from the countryside or a foreigner.â and the rest of it tbh
from http://finnish.blogs.tamk.fi/2015/03/06/a-bus-etiquette-in-finland/ âIn Finland going to a bus is not some messy bazaar where people do whatever they want to. It is a very delicate and sophisticated situation where you have to know what to do. Otherwise you might ruin the day and maybe the whole month of some innocent person.â
so uh⌠yeah this is legit? apparently? itâs really funny and odd lmao
So fun story
My housemate is Finnish and I asked her how to say âHi! My name is Anna and Iâm excited to go travellingâ.
She kinda pondered it for a second before saying, âThatâs not something we would really say in Finnishâ.
So I shortened the sentence -Â âIâm excited to go travelling.â
She thought about it again before saying, âWe wouldnât really say that, eitherâ.
So last attempt, I shortened the phrase to -Â âIâm excited.â
Bless her, she just looked like she was really struggling to come up with the equivalent phrase so I asked, âDo you not really talk to each other in Finland?â
Iâve never seen someone relax so much at another personâs realisation. She smiled really brightly and just said, âYeah we donât!â :DDDDDDDDD
