People who think that Nikki is the monster are the people who would make this type of wish. The banality of Baron’s misogyny is the real horror. It’s made clear from the start when he disregards the waiter’s opinion for his Fred Durst fratbro friend’s objectively awful advice. In the in the way that he blames the cat for getting into the medication that he left out for the cat to get into. The way that he goes to buy her a gift, gets so sidetracked in how she would potentially perceive it with a confession of love that he ends up buying something he wants and then he still doesn’t give it to her. It’s in the entitlement he feels to her body even after it’s fully clear that it’s not Nikki. It’s in the way he never gives Nikki any agency or choice, in fact, actively denies her that even when she’s begging for it. He is in a constant pathological need of being in control but refuses any responsibility. Baron fully doesn’t care about Nikki as a real person outside of his idea of her. It’s why he only gets upset after she begins to behave abnormally to a degree he can’t ignore. The only real act of love he ever showed Nikki was at the very end by not throwing up and only that was something that happened because she wished for him to love her.
