so. weāve known for a while that solas has lavellan ride his thigh in the fade, thanks to flycam and posts like this. but since i havenāt seen any gifs on the specifics of how it happens, i made some. hereās the breakdown:
as tumblrĀ @kreebbyā notes, solas first pulls lavellanās hips to his. really, though, itās more like he slams her to him? heās that horny. i had to slow the gif quite a bit.
two different angles for the thigh-riding for yāall. for some reason, i assumed the dipping wasnāt as deliberate as it was desperate. i was wrong. as we can see, it was deliberate. he literally bends lavellan to a position where sheās perfectly situated to ride him. any lift of his thigh is minor, as heĀ only needs to apply a little more pressure.

when Cole says āHe wants when he has never wanted beforeā and then you remember this letter exists. Solas is thousands of years old and never wanted anything for himself until he meets Lavellanā¦a mortal whoās a product of one of his biggest regrets. And one that he cherishes more than any of his victories.
no I will never be over Solavellan
Never Alone
I had the honor of writing about Athelas and Solasās first time together for a trade withĀ @hansaera (who is a fantastic artist that you should absolutely be following/commissioning/supporting on Patreon)! Here is the result :D I am so glad you love it, dear Saera <3
Pairing:Ā Athelas Lavellan x Solas
Rating: Mature/Explicit - kind of right on that fuzzy line
Summary:Ā Athelas is used to people who leave, and expects Solas to at any moment - right up until the moment when he stays.
************
Athelas was used to people that left her.
Her mother, her father.
Her whole clan would have left her if they had the chance. She was sure of it. Who needed someone so cursed?
She was used to nightmares, too. Wolves right at her heels, teeth bared - the sound of their snapping and snarling. Water rushing over her head, lungs closing up, refusing to breathe, darkness closing in. People chasing her the way the wolves did, as if she was an animal, as if she was prey, as if she was not fit to live -
Athelas was used to both of those things - but Solas was not.
It bothered him that she thought so little of herself, that she could not understand why he thought so highly of her. It bothered him that when he came to see her in the Fade he often had to dispel a nightmare first. It was okay if he didnāt understand. He was only one more person who was going to leave, after all. Theyād danced around each other since the Fade, since she blurted out that she had feelings for him, since he kissed her on the balcony. Of course it was inevitable that he would dance away.
They shared a tent in the field sometimes, though. More out of practicality than anything else. And, she suspected, because it wasnāt entirely private. You could always hear the campfire and the insects and the birds, and whoever was on watch. She didnāt know why Solas would only allow them both the comfort of warm arms and whispered words before good night when they were in camp - but there was so much she didnāt know about men, and relationships.
It was because of this habit of sharing a tent that Solas first witnessed one of her nightmares in person.

totally real lines Solas says that you can get in the super secret edition of the game*
"You could have saved her... you're worse than anything locked up down there. One day, I'll have the chance to save you, and I'll watch you suffer and die."
"I won't do it. You can't make me. You like to think you're a hero, but you're the biggest monster of all."
"This is my fault... I am responsible for this."
"I brought you here to heal you... so we could be together."

And I thought the end of the world couldn't get any worse.
People like to boil Solas down to a binary. Like he somehow exists as either Solas OR Fen'harel. When they talk about him he is either "masked" in Inquisition or he's "unmasked" as in Trespasser (and to some extent Veilguard, although I will argue that he's also playing a role in Veilguard) but...
The truth is: he is always Fen'harel, and he is always Solas. We know more, and we know he has been lying, but, I often see people talk about Solas' deviations from "sad fade guy" in Inquisition as the mask slipping, but I look at those moments as elements of character. No one is just "sad fade guy" (I would argue Solas isn't that either but that's a whole other conversation). And the moments when Solas attacks the mages, or relaxes at the ball, or when he argues with blackwall about a soldier's duty. Those are all moments where, yes, he reveals more than he should of the self he's pretending not to be, but that is simply Solas. That is the reality of him that were seeing. His past, his passions, his compassion. He is more a scholar than he a vengeance-filled rebellion leader. His heart lies in wisdom and history and the course of things but it recognizes and feels injustice.
He is never not Fen'harel from the moment you first speak with him and he is never not Solas when he chooses to tear down the Veil. They are one and the same.
āHis heart lies in wisdom and history but feels injusticeā is another perfect summery of him.
He was pulled into war when all he wanted was to share his knowledge.

A prime example of veilguard adding insult to injury is being told that the entirety of southern thedas is dead and gone and then later having to sit through a cutscene where two companions plan a camping trip to the hinterlands. In southern thedas. The place that has, off screen, been scorched off the face of the planet. A camping trip.
I was literally screaming at my TV when I got that scene. Like we JUST had a whole meeting with everyone at the table discussing battle tactics and time management and you wanna go on a fucking picnic???
Yesterday I had the opportunity to talk to Gareth David-Lloyd (Solas' voice actor) during a Swedish convention. Here's some of the things he said about his work on Dragon Age (that I remember!)
He's not entirely happy with the writing of The Veilguard. "But that's what happens when there's too many cooks" (paraphrasing) and when all the original people disappear from the project (like the layoffs). He said something about how when passing on the project to other people (writers) there's sure to be some lost information or different interpretations.
He didn't know more about Solas than the player did during Inquisition. He just thought Solas was a mysterious companion that disappeared. He only learned more when he got the script for Trespasser (and his reaction to getting all the info from Trespasser was "this is awesome")
I asked how he prepared for the role of Solas the first time he got the role, compared to when he came back for The Veilguard, and one thing he did for The Veilguard was just to play Inquisition several times (which ofc he "had the time for since it took years for The Veilguard to come out" (paraphrasing)). The third time he played Inquisition he romanced Solas, which was "a fun experience".
He hasn't finished playing The Veilguard because he's playing on his son's ps5 and doesn't always have the opportunity to play. He received a free code for the game, but for pc, and he doesn't have a gaming pc (if I recall correctly).
Solas' performance was first done with motion capture, which David-Lloyd said he would've loved to have done himself. Mainly because he originally had to match his voice acting to that of the mo-cap actor's performance (like dubbing), which of course limited his own performance. But in the end he performed the lines in his own way, which he felt was best for the final product, and was more happy with the result. The animations then had to be altered to fit David-Lloyd's performance instead.
