Old State is a pop punk/emo band from St. Louis, Missouri. The band has two releases in their discography, their most recent effort being “Perspectives”, which came out in July. Formed in 2014, this band has came a long way in terms of crafting a sound that I find intriguing. Old State is a combination of keys and guitar in emo music that I have been longing to find for quite some time. Every track on this record flows in the way that it should, creating an atmosphere that you can lose yourself in. I can’t help but be reminded of early Taking Back Sunday in more tender moments of songs like Porch Swing, and at the same time, there is a sort of angst in the vocals and instrumentation to coexist with the rest that reminds me of “Young States” era Citizen, and “I Wish I Could Stay Here” era Basement.

“The reception was calming, and everyone talking, it only made us miss you more.” Sometimes lyrics are so powerful that there are no words to be said about them. This is one of those moments.

I heard this band for the first time today and I will be no doubt be listening to them regularly now. This is a band that seems like it would have a killer live show, and I would love to experience it soon.
