"I can't exactly..."
"Explain where Iāve been."
Ā "Why's that? Where did you go?"
"Iāve done that a few times⦠they were not happy about itā¦"
"And thatās when Iām actually glad Faye got the boys to keep an eye on us"
Ā "I couldn't imagine why. I mean, it's not like they didn't deserve it."Ā
"I have to agree."
Are you paying for school on your own?Ā
Bills and food? You do all that on your own?
Oh. Yeah.Ā
I do. I mean, there's some money that my parents left me, but I try not to use it unless there's an emergency or something.

All of the Stars || Damon and Layla
damonravenscroft:
The comfort that Damon felt from Layla squeezing his hand was just the push he needed to tell Layla all about this past. The only person who knew the whole story was someone he wasnāt even speaking to and while Damon normally felt anxiety at the mere thought of his parents mention. But today, sitting here with the woman he loved, knowing that his dad was dead, he almost felt relieved to tell Layla the truth. Damon squeezed her hand back and tried to smile at the woman sitting next to him. āAs you can probably guess from my reaction, my father and I didnāt have the best relationship. Hell my mother and I didnāt have the best relationship. My father was an abusive, drunk, vindictive son of a bitch who had to control everyone and everything around him. Ā As long as I can remember he would beat me whenever I didnāt comply with his wishes. I learned early on to do whatever he said, unfortunately even that didnāt stop his rage. My mother was a drunk, mostly because the alcohol helped dull the pain of my fatherās fists. When I was eight she started doing drugs, she didnāt have a preference, it was just whatever she could get her hands on. After my father would hit my mother, she would turn it around on me. Never being physically abusive, but being emotionally abusive. Blaming me for all his anger, blaming me for the pain he put us both through. One day I snapped, and had enough. I beat him before he could beat me and I ran away. I was living on the streets poor and starving when I was arrested for stealing food. I was to be put to death when Melissa stepped in, requesting I come and work for her instead of being executed, the queen agreed and I think you know the rest.ā Damonās eyes trailed away from Layla while he waited for her to respond. It was a lot to digest. He just hoped that Layla could stomach the things he had told her.Ā
Layla sat on the couch silently, attempting to make sense of what Damon had told her. She couldn't help but cringe when Damon mentioned how his parents were abusive, and felt an outpouring of sympathy for the man. It wasn't fair that she had had the greatest parents in the world, and his were so terrible to him. Rationally, she knew that not everyone was good. But she just didn't find it fair that he had to go through that, that anyone did. Layla couldn't possibly imagine the extent of what he had told her. With her free hand, she grabbed his hand and squeezed it, then pulled him in for a hug, holding onto him slightly more tightly then she needed too. With a deep breath, she thought about what she should say, and came up with a blank. The last thing she wanted to do was ramble on about such a terrible thing. "I'm so sorry that this happened to you." Was all she said. "And I'm not really sure what to say. I mean, I don't have firsthand experience, so I can't really empathize or anything. But I'm here. And I don't plan on going anywhere, as long as you want me to stay." She smiled softly, kissing him lightly.Ā
"But, speaking of Melissa. How is she? I haven't really seen you go to work much." Layla was curious. She understood why Damon didn't really have to work for her anymore, but she never saw him go to visit, at least.Ā
"Don't bring an umbrella, they said. It'll be sunny all day, they said."
All of the Stars || Damon and Layla
Damon had been dreading this day since he met Layla. He knew she would ask about his past. That she would ask about his parents and what had happened between them. He had just never imagined it would be so soon and that it would be like this. Damon shut the fridge and grabbed his coffee before heading to the sofa in the living room. If he was going to tell her all about his past, he at least wanted to be comfortable doing it. He waited for Layla to walk into the room behind him, knowing that she wouldnāt let him out of her sight for one second without knowing what was going on. He gestured to the spot next to him and started talking. āLayla, there is a lot you donāt know about me. About my past, about my family, about the reason I was first placed under the employment of Melissa. Itās not pretty. None of it is. I understand if you donāt want to stick around for the gory details. Hell, I understand if you donāt want to stick around after I tell you. Iām scary and damaged and myĀ darling FatherĀ andĀ dearest Mother are the reason for that. If you decide you want to hear all my deep dark secrets have a seat. If not go ahead and leave, and know that I wonāt hold any of this against you.ā
Layla had figured his past wasn't pretty, but she didn't know close to any of the darker details. She could tell that it was nothing like her own, which was, for the most part, was everything but dark. It was cheery, bright, full of a love which only got ripped apart because of something she couldn't control. She paused at the entrance to his living room, for a moment before making her way over to the spot where Damon was gesturing.
Sitting down, Layla listened to him tell her all the reasons she shouldn't hear his backstory, all of which made her want to hear it more. Layla hesitated while he spoke, wanting to say all the right things to put him at ease. Saying that there was nothing that Damon could tell her that would make her want to leave wasn't a lie, but it felt...fake, somehow. "Damon," Layla said, "Tell me everything." She grabbed his hand and squeezed it. "I want to know."
"Iām sorry. Youāre right, youāre always right. So what do we do? I want you to live with me, but I want you to feel comfortable about all of this. I want you to be happy. What would make you happy?"
"What is there to understand? I love you Layla. I love you. I just wanted to get you something to show how much. I have the means and ability to do that now, so let me."
"I'm not always right, hush." Layla laughed quietly. "I'd like to live with you, too, really." She paused. "I really don't think you can do anything about it. It's just...for the past few years, I've been so used to doing things for myself and on my own, it doesn't feel right to let you do it all for me."
"I love you too, Damon, but you don't need to do all these extravagant things for me. I'm happy now." She smiled, grabbing his hand. "Really."

"Do you need assistance?"
"I would love some, actually."
"That's it... I give up..."
"So a family heirloom then⦠mmmm letās see⦠Iām sure it can be solved⦠we just need to be patientā¦"
"So how have you been Layla?" Belle said as she worked on the puzzle.Ā
"I just really want to figure it out. I've been tinkering with it for an hour now."
"I've been alright." Layla said, honestly. "I've been better, but how are you?"
"Contrary to what you may be thinking, I have no idea what I'm doing."
"That's it... I give up..."
"It is a puzzle!!!"
"Where did you get it anyways?"
"It was in my attic."
Ā "I'm sure it can be solved somehow."
All of the Stars || Damon and Layla
There was an overwhelming sense of relief that washed over Damon as soon as the news of his fathers death had been confirmed. No longer would he have to look over his shoulder, afraid of what his father could, and would do to him if he ever saw him. When he left home all those years ago, his father threatened to kill him if he ever saw him again. But Damon knew it wasnāt so much a threat as it was a promise. He felt ten pounds lighter, knowing that his father couldnāt make good on that promise anymore. He practically ran to the kitchen and began pulling pots and pans out, this called for a celebratory breakfast.Ā
He was already pulling things out of the fridge when he realized he hadnāt responded to Laylaās question. Pulling his head out of the fridge, he called out to her. āOf course, Iām fine. Youāre here arenāt you.ā He shouted before continuing. āCome on in here. We should have breakfast. Today is a great day for breakfast.āĀ
Layla stood in his living room, confused. Damon didn't look the least bit upset. Rather, he looked relieved. Like a huge burden had been lifted off of his shoulders, and Layla was determined to figure out why.Ā She walked to the entryway of his kitchen and hesitated. "Well, every day is a good day to have breakfast." She commented, still debating whether or not to ask him about it. "But..your father is dead. Breakfast just doesn't seem...right."Ā
She took a deep breath, debating whether or not to just go for it and ask him about what he wasn't telling her. "Damon, what are you not telling me?"

"We can find a house so large that even Stiles can come. He can have his own wing so that way we never have to see each other. Itās not like Iām the biggest fan of his either. Whenever you need him, where is he? Not around thatās for sure. I can be there for you Layla, he canāt. He has proven it time and time again."
"I know I donāt need to. I donāt need to do anything. But I want to. I want all of this, with you. No one else, just you."
"He has been there for me, Damon. Especially before I met you. And he still is. Stiles is my family. He has been for years, and he always will be, no matter what you may think. He's also an adult, which means he can make his own decisions. No matter how much I might not like him."
"And I love that. But...I can't say I understand."
"If thatās the case donāt you think itās time for a new house? In fact, I think we should both be living somewhere else. Perhaps living somewhere together? What do you think."
"You have no choice. They belong to you, and Iām not taking them back."
"T-together? Damon, I can't. I mean, if it was just me, I would love to. But I have to take care of Stiles, and he's not exactly your biggest fans."
"Really, you don't need to do this."
