Cassandra Darke is the highly anticipated new release from Posy Simmonds, a cartoonist that worked for The Guardian in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

 Simmond’s is a fantastic creator, able to draw you into her stories with her stunning illustration alone. She perfectly sets each scene and conveys the personality and emotion of her characters with her writing and artwork.

Darke is the anti-heroine you never knew you needed. She really is Scrooge… in a skirt, making this an amazing Christmas present… The story follows Cassandra, a self-absorbed and reclusive art dealer who just can’t seem to keep herself out of bother. Through Cassandra we are taken on a wild journey through London. The story keys us into the culture and crime that surrounds the area.

Oftentimes something is lost in translation when a novel is adapted into another medium. However with Out in the Open, Javi Rey was able to take the source material and turn it into something barren and beautiful. The plot is simple enough: in a post-technological, dehydrated world, a young boy flees his village for the plains beyond. The plot is subsumed to the larger importance of the book's theme, which is about faith - both the suffering that it provokes and the grace that it provides.

The story is always in motion, a truly claustrophobic and horrifying piece. We can hear the shortened breath and pounding hearts of each character throughout. This feels like a straight sequel to the original Alien film.

 The strength of Aliens: Dead Orbit is definitely in the stylistic illustration of James Stokoe. His raw, detailed, messy-yet-controlled line work captures the grimy future look of the Alien films better than any other artist I have ever seen. His work is dynamic, and just a little off in a way that feels gross and tense all the time.

To celebrate Halloween this year we really wanted to share with you some of our favourite horrors of the year. We’ll be giving you the low down on these graphic novels so you can decide what suits you!

To kick things off, we have Infidel by Pornsak Pichetshote and Aaron Campbell...

What is our world coming to? Infidel is a comic that shocks and terrifies. This may be a haunted house story, but it is so cleverly linked to issues of today’s society that it truly hits home. It truly is a horror story for the 21st century.

 The story follows the main character, Aisha a Muslim woman, and her troubles living in a building haunted by an entity, that feeds on xenophobia. Which leads me to the question, just how did the entity come to be? Did we create it with our own misdoings?

 This creative team was able to create a tense atmosphere with their use of artwork and completely believable characters. You really feel for Aisha as she’s sucked further into the haunting.

Dead Gods falling from the sky? 

Alien creatures coming from below? 

Ancient Avengers?! 

Looks like it's time to get the band back together. Avengers #1 takes places after the rough couple of years our heroes have had (Coma Tony, Hydra Cap, Unworthy Thor) while our 3 main heroes take a drink to reflect on their recent trials, forces are moving that will force a new team of Avengers to assemble. 

This new roster will combine old and new faces including She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange and The Black Panther for this new incredible adventure that will connect the avengers to their ancient counterparts. The upcoming battle is sure to test earth's mightiest heroes to the limit but if anyone can beat The Final Host it's the Avengers. 

Avengers has the classic Marvel art style we all know and love and if you've just seen Infinity War, this series will help with the wait for the next film.
