An advice when you want to write a meta about why a ship shouldn’t be shipped.
Think about writing why the characters can’t work together mentioning examples, speaking exhaustively about these…
So… bring to me your thesis.
Then you put the response you’d get from the people that are in favor of that ship. Maybe you can also do the opposite: start with the pros and then your cons.
If it's a post full of criticisms, at least mention one positive thing (even the stupidest one, an example: x ship has a fandom that produces a lot of cute fanart).
Then write your own conclusions. Then offend the shippers and send death threats.
Exactly, this is the point that starts ship wars, —> when from a ship, you move on to a personal offense against a stranger you don't know.
And the you make assumptions about their personalities, their morals and their lifestyles. Which is WRONG!
This is what happens:
- voila, tumblr tags bombarded with posts by antis and cancel culture. People mistagging with intention, ragebaiting every breathing soul.
- voila artists who stop making art because they're attacked by people from all sides;
- voila artists' art exploited and used to point out the "inferiority" of a segment of the fandom;
- voila writers who don't write when they receive daily hate comments;
- someone who truly liked something feels guilty and ashamed because they're constantly bullied, so they fake disliking a thing;
- the experience becomes more of a constant argument with everyone than a fun hobby;
- people are constantly blocked when there shouldn't be much need. Imagine if in real life you put a restraining order on all these people; what a madness.
So we're not having fun here anymore, we're not arguing civilly, we're acting like children here.
X: "I'll take the red one."
Y: "No, the red one is stupid and you're stupid."
X: "Then I won't play with you anymore because you like the green one which is also stupid!"
Exactly guys, I didn't even think it was worth writing this post because these things are obvious, but maybe they're not that obvious to everyone.
