Impress (Alex Danvers/Reader)
The world seemed to be in a constant disarray. In all honesty, it had never been perfect, but compared to what it had very recently been, things were going pretty well. Still, it was fucked up enough for you to find yourself in one of the few bars in town where you felt you belonged. You werenât an alien, but people seemed to be a lot more accepting here and the drinks were less expensive than most of the other bars and clubs in the city.Â
âOops, sorry.â You turned your head to see a very cute blonde with glasses standing next to you. She had bumped into you and you could tell that this was an actual accident. âIâll get you a new drink, Iâm really sorry. Iâm Kara.âÂ
â(Y/n) (Y/l/n),â you said, shaking her hand. âItâs fine, I shouldnât be drinking now anyways. Not great strategy to get drunk before a game day.âÂ
âGame day?â Kara asked and you nodded.Â
âYep, youâre looking at the star forward of the National City Nighthawks. We honestly donât generate a lot of press,â you said and Kara smiled.Â
âYou can join my friends and I if youâd like. Iâm not drinking tonight and weâre pretty fun company. Beats hanging out alone and you can tell us all about the Nighthawks,â Kara offered and you agreed. Something about her was very difficult to say no to, but you didnât really care. She brought you over to her table and introduced you to her group of friends, Lena, Brainy, Nia, and Alex.Â
âSo, youâre a professional hockey player?â Lena asked and you made a face.Â
âProfessional is a stretch. I mean, weâre NWHL sponsored, but it doesnât feel like much more than a recreational league sometimes. There are a lot of problems, I honestly wish weâd get bought out or the NHL would fund us,â you said and Lena nodded. âIâd like to think that if we had funding and better resource management, weâd be able to draw in crowds and revenue, but nobody seems to want to give us a chance.âÂ
âPerhaps L-Corp could do something about that,â Lena said and you were shocked. âIâd have to see your team play first, whenâs your next game?âÂ
âTomorrow,â you said, dumbfounded. You told them a bit about what you normally did at games, what time your game was, and how much tickets were. By the end of the night, you were a few more beers in than you had been before as you walked back to your apartment, thinking about your new friends. Brainy had been insanely smart and a bit awkward, which was endearing. His girlfriend was gorgeous and funny, reminding you a lot of Kara. It was obvious to you that Kara and Lena had something going on by how the brunette kept one hand on the blonde at all times and how Kara leaned into her touch. Alex seemed pretty single and just your type.Â
The next day you got a text from Kara wishing you good luck and you forgot that youâd even exchanged numbers with her. Your practice had went very well and before you knew it, it was game time. You would be playing the Connecticut Whales and while you had a few pre-game jitters, you knew that you would do good. You noticed Kara and her friends sitting in the front row and you played, wanting to prove to Lena that you were worth funding. And maybe, just maybe, you wanted to impress Alex. By the end of the game the score was 5-3 in the Nighthawkâs favor with an impressive hat trick for yourself. Surprisingly, this was your first game in a few seasons where you hadnât been to the penalty box.Â
âWhy is Lena Luthor in our locker room?â One of your teammates asked you. You pulled off your torso padding and stood up to greet her, noticing Alex checking you out behind her.Â
âWhatâd you think?â you asked them, playing with the ties on your hockey pants.Â
âYouâre very skilled, it was entertaining,â Lena said and Kara nodded in agreement. âIâm happy to provide your league with funding and whatever else it needs.âÂ
âWait a minute, is that why you were on your best behavior?â You rolled your eyes at your teammateâs question, hoping sheâd shut her mouth, but of course, she didnât. âI knew something had to be up. I swear, sheâs a wild one out there, normally sheâs in the penalty box a couple times a game. Sheâs what makes it interesting, very aggressive.âÂ
âThank you, shut up now before she gets a demonstration!â You clapped your hands together and your teammate got the hint. You turned back to everybody else and smiled. âDrinks?âÂ
âDefinitely,â Alex answered and you smiled.Â
âJust let me shower and then Iâll meet you guys in the parking lot,â you said and they left. You showered quickly, changed, and then went out to meet them. You guys went back to Alexâs apartment instead of a bar, Lena and Kara going to pick up extra booze. âThat yours?âÂ
âYeah,â Alex said, leaning against a really nice motorcycle. âYou ride?âÂ
âNope, I have to keep this body as safe as possible,â you said, leaning against your car. âI did have a Vespa though, but it broke down a couple months ago, so I got a real car.âÂ
âThereâs not really a lot of parking at my place, if you want I can give you a ride, itâs very safe,â Alex said and you agreed to riding with her. You were glad that you had a parking pass so you could keep your car there overnight. You got on the back of the motorcycle and held on tightly to Alexâs waist as she drove you to her place. You could feel her abs through her shirt and it was hot, you wanted to know what she did to get a body like that.Â
âHow did they beat us?â you asked as Alex let you into her apartment. Kara and Lena were sitting on the couch, cuddled up next to each other. There was an open bottle of some really nice whiskey on the table. âDamn, the nicer bottle in my apartment is some Crown Royal a teammate left once.âÂ
âJust accept it,â Alex whispered in your ear, pouring two glasses. She handed one to you and you cheers to what could be described as one of the best nights of your life. âSo, what got you into hockey?âÂ
âAlways loved it, then I took a trip to Canada when I was little and saw how aggressive they played. That was when I really fell for it. Iâm sure my mom would have liked me to play soccer or softball, something a bit less nerve wracking for a parent,â you said with a chuckle.Â
âThat was kind of scary,â Kara said and you shrugged. âArenât you afraid of something really bad happening?âÂ
âNope,â you said nonchalantly. âYeah, thereâs always the chance of injury, but even in the moment, weâre careful not to end somebody elseâs career early. I can show you guys some moves later if you want, we can even get out on the ice. Itâd be a great way to really get involved in your newest investment.âÂ
âAlright, Iâm in,â Lena said and Kara and Alex agreed to join in as well. The four of you chatted and drank for a couple of hours, Kara getting a very tipsy Lena back to her apartment while you stretched out on the couch, your head on Alexâs lap.Â
âThis is comfy,â you said and Alex nodded. âSo, are you a hockey fan now?âÂ
âYeah, I am,â Alex admitted and you sat up a bit, smiling at her. The two of you were very close, not even a foot apart. âThere was a very impressive player, scored a hat trick even.âÂ
âWell, maybe she was trying to impress this cute redhead,â you said and Alex closed to gap between the two of you. The kiss was firm, she knew what she wanted and so did you, but there was a playfulness to it that you didnât expect. âI suppose this means I impressed.âÂ
âIt does,â Alex said and you mentally high fived yourself.
