"Are you sure you want to go tonight? Kara would understand if we didn't make it." Alex questioned, shooting you an occasional glance while the two of you toweled off in your bedroom. You ruffled your hair with the towel before tossing it in the hamper. "Babe, i'm okay." You walked over to her, planting a quick kiss to her cheek before moving towards the closet. You were feeling a bit exhausted, to say work from the last week and a half was catching up with you was an understatement. It was crime after crime after crime, villain after villain needing to be stopped, but game night with your future sister-in-law and her friends was probably just what you needed to unwind. You cleared your throat, there was this perpetual scratchy irritation in the back of your throat that you had been dealing with threw out the day, you couldn't free yourself from it. "What are you going to wear?" You asked, looking over your shoulder, your girlfriend was sitting on the bed with her towel wrapped around her. Alex shrugged "Just get me my black v-neck and some black jeans, i'll throw a jacket over it." you smirked and nodded "You look hot in all black." She chuckled "Oh shut up, let's pick up the pace a bit, I don't want to be the last ones to show up."
After tossing Alex her requested outfit you rummaged through the closet for a few more moments, trying to decide on an outfit for yourself. "If we bring pot stickers Kara wouldn't mind us being a little bit late." you mumbled distractedly, you were finding it hard to decide on an outfit, you knew it was just a casual fun gathering between friends, but that didn't make it any easier. "You know Lena will bring plenty of pot stickers, she has it bad for my sister." Alex spoke while she got dressed. You almost choked trying to hold in a laugh, that was the understatement of the year. The doe-eyed looks Lena gave Kara were almost unbearable, cute, but unbearable. "But Kara is a bottomless pit when it comes to her favorite food, so maybe it wouldn't hurt to make a quick ten minute stop." Alex continued, mulling it over in her head. You were one of the few D.E.O agents that knew Kara's super identity, and her ability to eat an unearthly amount of food. You grinned, alas you had accomplished finding an outfit and the thought of seeing Kara's goofy grin when the two of you walked in with pot stickers warmed your heart. You tried once more to clear your throat, which only irritated it a bit more, you sent a few light coughs into the crook of your arm. Alex looked over at you "Are you feeling okay? Are you sure you're up for it? I know how taxing the Superfriends can be, I don't want you to push yourself too much." She cringed slightly as she said 'superfriends'. "Baabe." You huffed, slightly annoyed by her asking "I'm fine, let's go have some fun." -------------------------------------- "Heh'ptshiuu." You sneezed into the crook of your arm awkwardly, seeing as Alex was holding your hand. In your other hand were pot stickers, Alex had let you be the bearer of them this time. "Bless you." She hummed, rubbing your hand with her thumb. You gave your girlfriend a soft smile before giving the door to Kara's loft a weird off beat knock, one that you always did, you knew she could just look through the door if she wanted to, but that wasn't fun for you. Kara flung the door open, looking as chipper as ever, she was virtually beaming. Kara wrapped the two of you in a warm Kryptionian hug, careful not to leave any lasting damage, "Alex! Y/N! Where have you two been? I was starting to get worried." Alex gave your upper arm a nudge with her elbow "Someone thought it was the Met Gala so we got held up." You rolled your eyes "More importantly, we brought..." You paused to hold up the bag. "Pot Stickers!" Kara practically sang, eagerly retrieving the delicious offering. "I knew you girls loved me." She stepped aside, letting the two of you in from the hallway. You scanned the room; Jonn, Nia and Brainy "No Lena?" You asked unable to disguise the pure confusion that riddled your voice. "Are you two fighting?" You asked cautiously, turning around in time to find Kara stuffing her face with a couple pot stickers. "Did you guys teach her manners?" You asked Alex, unable to contain your laughter. "Sorry." Kara mumbled, placing her hand to her mouth as she finished her mouthful of food. She spoke after swallowing the last bit of pot sticker "No no, Lena is here, she wanted to freshen up after a long day at L-corp, I told her she looked beautiful either way. She should be almost finished in the bathroom, I heard the shower stop a few minutes ago." Kara's cheeks flushed, her brain catching up with half of the words that she just uttered. It's totally not like she had been eagerly waiting to spend time with Lena after a long week of superhero work and reporting. You gave a cheeky grin "Babe why don't you pick out-Hh'ptshioo-the first game this time, I'll get us a drink." you sniffled a bit after sneezing against your wrist. Alex nodded "Bless you." She kissed your cheek before walking to join Jonn, Nia and Brainy in the common area. You stayed in the kitchen with Kara, she was now seated on one of the stools at the kitchen island, those pot stickers stood no chance. You opened the fridge, wine or beer, it was a hard decision. You nibbled your lip as you stared into the fridge, conflicted. "Beer! It's been a really long week." You heard Alex call from across the room. Did she have some secret powers that you didn't know about, could she feel your mental conundrum. You nodded nonetheless, your girlfriend was right. You grabbed two bottles, shutting the fridge with your foot and setting the bottles on the island to pop them open. You sniffled a few times, the sides of your nose twitching as you felt an oncoming sneeze. You rubbed one side of your nose "Hhh...hehh...huhh." You sighed, letting out a shaky breath, the urge to sneeze dissipated and you felt no sense of relief. You rubbed away the tears that had formed in your eyes, giving a few more damp sniffles. Kara placed her hand on top of yours, that was now resting on the counter top. You locked eyes with her, she opened her mouth to say something but Lena emerged from Kara's bedroom pulling her attention away "Sorry I took so long darling, self care took a little longer than expected." Lena's eyes were fixed on Kara, as if no one else was present. Her damp hair was set in a tight neat bun, she was dressed in that blue long sleeve shirt that Kara owned and a pair of black sweats. "Wow" Kara breathed as she took in Lena's appearance, awkwardly readjusting her glasses. "We are here for game night." Alex cut in, she wanted to finish her statement by saying 'Not eye fucking' but resisted the urge. You eyed your girlfriend from across the room, fighting a smirk, you could practically hear the words come from her mouth, even though she didn't actually say them. -------------------------------------- Everyone was gathered around the coffee table, you all had just finished your first game of Exploding Kittens. Brainy didn't really understand the game, or why it was called Exploding Kittens, but he still seemed to enjoy it. Your nose had become more of a nuisance as time passed. During the game you found yourself needing to sniffle quite often to keep it under control in conjunction with going to the bathroom a couple times to blow it. No one really noticed, or if they did they didn't say anything, the only two that made it apparent were Alex and Lena. Lena would send you the occasional sympathetic glance, as a hard working CEO that didn't know the first meaning of taking a sick day, she could tell you were not coming to terms with your symptoms. Alex on the other hand would give your knee a gentle tap and shoot you questioning looks, using non verbal communication to make sure you were feeling alright. You insisted you felt perfectly fine, of course. You and her both knew you were not being fully honest. "Hhh'ptshh...'Tchsshhuu." You sneezed twice into your shoulder. "Bless you" Kara and Lena managed to say simultaneously, Kara's tone conveying surprise while Lena sounded more pitying. You cleared your throat, pulling away from Alex's faint touch, picking up a few of the empty beer bottles that gathered on the coffee table during the night "Thank you, i'm going to clean these up, take a little bit of the load off of Kara later." You said giving her a wink. Alex waited a moment, letting everyone else distract themselves with a bit of conversation before slipping away to meet you in the kitchen. "What?" You asked, letting the bottles clank as you tossed them into the trash can. "Look at me." Alex said firmly. You turned swiftly on the balls of your feet "Alex...It's no big deal, just a few random sneezes. We're having fun, we should just stay." She shook her head, closing the distance between the two of you. She cupped your face in both of her hands, looking into you eyes "It's more than that, I can tell." She gently shifted your head side to side, examining you as if she was a doctor. "This week has been draining, even for me. Even for Kara. You don't have to fake it for me or our friends." Alex kissed the tip of your nose, pressing your foreheads together, before walking back over to the gaming zone. "We're going to head home, sorry we couldn't stay longer Kara. We just need a little bit of refueling after this week." You joined Alex's side and nodded, silently feeling grateful that your girlfriend was so perceptive. Kara jumped up from her seat next to Lena "Aww, Lena and I were going to smoke you guys in the next game, we will save it for next time! I am just glad we got to spend some non-work related time together." Kara moved to pull the two of you into a farewell hug, you were going to protest, but she was Kryptonian and since she was not solar flared she'd be perfectly fine. "Take care." Lena called, watching the warm exchange. -------------------------------------- You were beyond thankful to be back home, back home and in your warm cozy bed. You had not realized how exhausted your body was, but now that your mind was truly unwinding you felt it full force. You muffled a set of chesty coughs into the blanket. "I bet you feel like crap." Alex hummed softhearted. You rubbed your throat and nodded "Yea I feel like crap, but I still had fun." You rubbed the spot next to you under the blanket "Come lay with me." You half whined. She laughed and nodded "I will, but let me go get some medicine. We'll have you feeling better in no time." A shiver struck through your body at the thought of the terrible tasting cold medicine. You could take any hard liquor, but liquid cold medicine was a whole other kind of evil. Alex returned with the bottle of Nyquil, already having poured the allotted amount in the little plastic cup. "Bottoms up." She chimed as she shimmied under the blankets. You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath, resisting the urge to gag at the powerful artificial syrup flavor smell. "You are literally so dramatic." Alex scoffed as she watched you mentally prepare yourself, as if you were going through all stages of grief in this brief moment. After getting your courage you took it like a shot, swallowing it seemingly effortlessly. You stuck out your tongue in disgust, shaking your head. Alex handed you the bottle of water to cleanse your pallet. "Come here." She cooed, after you took several swigs from the water bottle, setting it on the night stand. You smiled and moved closer to her, letting your head nestle in the crook of her neck. You released a content sigh. Nothing could compare to being wrapped in the firm arms of your girlfriend. "Thanks for forcing us to leave." You mumbled against her neck. Alex smiled "Of course baby, anytime. You're sweet, but sometimes you need an extra push." She was rubbing random lines up and down your back with one hand and flipping through the DVR with the other. You sniffed, moving your head so you could rub your nose against your neck. You felt that familiar prickling forming in your sinuses. You were trying your best to fight it off, but to no avail. You groaned softly, beginning to move from your position. Alex's hold unwavering "It's okay, just stay." She said reassuring. "Hhh...I'm gonna...uhh hehh...I'm gonna..." Your words came out near breathless as your breathing hitched "Hhh'ptshhh. Hah'pshhoo...hhh...ahh'Tchshhiioo" You sneezed wetly against the crook of your girlfriends neck. "Sorry Alex." You whispered, sniffing feverishly to get your nose back under control. "It's okay, just try and relax." She had finally settled on a movie, one hand remaining on your back and the other running soothingly through your hair. Alex could tell how exhausted you were, she definitely would be taking the next few days off to take care of you. Apparently all you needed was a few gentle head rubs, Alex could feel your breathing even out against her neck. You were snoring, a soft nasally snore. She kissed the top of your head "I love you." She whispered.
