Rebranding wearing makeup as “self care” only reinforces the patriarchal idea that women who reject the beauty industry aren’t taking care of ourselves. It’s sexist rhetoric.

Maybe some people genuinely enjoy wearing makeup? I know that makeup is not for everyone and everyone has different methods of self care, but if some people feel more confident wearing makeup then why not use it?

Anyways, makeup being seen as self care is a double standard applied to women but not men and that’s why women who don’t wear makeup are seen as not taking care of themselves.
