let Percy be terrifying and funny

The only reason why Percy is currently doing three more quests for the gods, while already being burnt out from finishing high school, is because he wants to enter the university of New Rome. A place where the monster who he watched kill his mom when he was twelve, the monster, who wore the necklaces of his dead friends around its axe as spoils of war, the monster he canonically still has nightmares about, lives peacefully alongside him and gets offended when he gets called a monster.

He does not want to go to that university, because he has a passion for a specific subject, or because he has a good time and flourishes in an academic environment. We know that Rick Riordan didn't really bother to think about what Percy wants to study, and as already stated, he is already burnt out from academics. But he wants to go there solely because his girlfriend and maybe some of his other friends live there.

All the while, he could technically go to a different university altogether, because, appearantly, monsters stop bothering demigods once they reach a certain age, which completely robs New Rome of the initial appeal it had to Percy in Son of Neptune, and of the sole reason why he wanted to live there in the first place.

On top of that, his trauma gets completely ignored, his accomplishments don't matter at all, and his relationship to other characters get either ignored/ brushed to the side, like in the case of Clarisse, Hazel, Frank, Rachel, Thalia etc. or get washed down so much that they are unrecognizable, frankly completely one dimensional, and require a bunch of mischaracterization, like in the case of Annabeth, Grover or Nico.

i totally forgot this existed, but poseidon literally told percy “i wish you weren’t born” ?? and percy IS hurt by it, but he just brushes it away and tries to leave. imagine being twelve, and the first time you see your biological father he says that to you? percy is TWLEVE. that is so damaging. like honestly poseidon wtf?

the thing that makes this scene sadder is when we consider the fact that up until this point percy lives in an abusive household with gabe. it is canon that gabe is physically and emotionally abusive to percy. that being said, i’m sure there were times that he mocked percy for not having his biological father there for him. overtime percy did grow mad at his dad for leaving him, but at the end of the day we all know he would have wanted to live a normal life with his actual dad and sally. all the kid wants is to be normal. and i can’t even image the pain he felt when poseidon tells him “i’m sorry you were born” ? like excuse me sir what the fuckkity fuck? did percy think “damn maybe gabe was right? my dad does hate me” LIKE HDJKDK i know poseidon backtracks later, but still.

also this makes me upset too...

percy called his dad SIR... like i know that’s common for many people but i just think it goes to show how percy doesn’t really view him as the dad he always wanted and that’s a big let down.

and it’s not until percy has went on numerous quests and brought poseidon glory, that they actually start developing a father-son relationship. consider the birthday scene from botl...

Students also send in conspiracy theories about him

Someone suggests he’s in the mafia

Someone else says he’s an alien

Another person thinks he’s the second coming of Christ

AHS goes through a brief period where they only refer to Percy as Jesus and give him offerings so they don’t go to hell

Percy is confused by it all

A student sends in a picture of Percy hanging out with Piper at Central Park

Everyone goes batshit insane because how the hell does Percy know Piper McLean???

Eventually Rachel finds the account and she thinks it’s hilarious

For some reason the account isn’t private so a bunch of people that don’t go to AHS follow it

Rachel convinces Percy to make an Instagram account so he can mess with ahs_ballpoint_pen and boy does he deliver

He gets his friends to take increasingly cryptic photos and videos of him

Annabeth finds an old news covering of him falling out of the St. Louis Arch and Percy sends it in

Once again his school thinks he’s the second coming of Christ because how the hell do you survive a fall that high up???

Through his finsta, Percy tells them that he aided in the presumed death of his ex-stepfather

There’s a video of Percy talking to a horse in the middle of the street right out front of AHS

The horse is actually Blackjack

By the end of the school year, the account has about 1 million followers

It blew up around December when someone finds CCTV footage of Percy stealing a police cruiser back when he had amnesia and posted it to the account

The best part of the footage is the police running after their stolen car and the person they had pulled over slowly driving away
