I’m asexual/ aromantic.

But my main focus on this blog is Percy Jackson. Specifically, the character of Percy. He is my absolute favourite riordanverse character, and that becomes very obvious when you visit my blog. I am very much fixated on him.

Some of my main opinions and focuses, just so you know what this blog is all about

I am a “Percy and Nico are brothers” truther. They are my favourite relationship in the entirety of the riordanverse. I love both of them dearly.

One of my main topics of interest is Percy’s relationship to the gods and the mythological world in general

Percy’s kindness, empathy and intelligence are some of his defining features and some of the main reasons why I love him so much

I’m a multishipper, but not the biggest fan of romance in PJO. My focus lies almost exclusively on platonic relationships

I am also critical of Rick Riordan, Heroes of Olympus, the college trilogy, the nico duology and the live action tv show. I’m not a hater, but if you don’t want to engage with criticism of any kind, this blog is probably not for you.

Like, the very first time I tried getting into DC movies was immediately after I became an MCU fan, and I thought I should give DC a shot as well.

Out of all the movies/ tv shows I could have possibly chosen, the movie I picked was Man of Steel, which, to this day, is one of my most disliked superhero movies oat and which made me very disinterested in superman as a character and dc as a whole for a couple years.

Had I instead chosen tv shows like smallville, teen titans, batman: the animated series, or movies like Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam, other animated movies, the suicide squad, etc, I probably would have fallen in love with dc far earlier.

And then, a couple year later, i thought I should give DC comics a shot instead, and the run I chose was the new 52 Justice league run, which I still very much dislike, which I stopped reading after like 12 issues and which made me turn away from Dc again for a couple years.

Something which certainly would not have happened had I read comics like Batman and Robin: Year One, Static: Season One, World's Finest, Wonder Woman: Year One, Batman: The long halloween, Shazam: Hope, Superman smashes the Klan, etc. instead.

And when I tried to get into marvel comics, I started reading the original Spider-Man run from the 1960s, which.... doesn't exactly hold up to modern standards. (At least not for me)

I just stumbled upon these couple lines and they lowkey make Percy’s feats in Tartarus even more insane, if they mean what I think they mean:

So, while they are in the temple of Hermes in Chapter 22 of House of Hades, Annabeth sleeps, and Percy does not wake her, because he instead chooses to stay awake the whole “night” guarding her.

That means that the last time he slept was probably before the Argo 2 arrived in Rome.

(If we assume he didn’t sleep during their fall into Tartarus, which seems likely, considering that it’s very hard to fall asleep while freefalling under the conditions that they did.)

Meaning that from that moment on, from before the seven arrived in Rome, until the moment he and Annabeth arrive in Damasen’s hut in chapter 37 of House of Hades,  Percy might not have had an ounce of sleep.  

As a reminder, during this time, Percy

Entered the Nymphaeum together with Piper and Jason where the three of them almost drowned

Fought and defeated together with Jason the twin giants

Fell into Tartarus with Annabeth for, I don’t really know how many hours/ days

Controlled and then fell into the Cocytus, the literal river of wailing

Drank from the Phlegethon

Killed Arachne so fast, that even Annabeth was stumped by it

Traveled a rather big distance in Tartarus, where his and Annabeth’s condition were described like this:

Next to her, Percy coughed. ‘This place smells like my ex-stepfather.’ (House of Hades, Chapter 6, Annabeth)

The heat from the river baked Percy’s skin. Every breath was like inhaling sulphur-scented fibreglass. When they needed a drink, the best they could do was sip some refreshing liquid fire. (House of Hades, Chapter 13, Percy)

Percy’s body went on autopilot. His fingers cramped. He felt blisters popping up on his ankles. He got shaky from hunger. (House of Hades, Chapter 14, Percy)

Fought against a bunch of Empousai

Convinced Bob to kill Hyperion

And then fought against dozens if not hundreds of Arai basically by himself (because Annabeth was incapacitated after suffering Calypso’s and Polyphemus curses and Bob left) while suffering from dozens of deadly curses himself. To name just a few examples of those:

Percy cut her in two, but as soon as she vaporized the sides of his chest flared with pain. He stumbled back, clamping his hand to his rib cage. His fingers came away wet and red. ‘Percy, you’re bleeding!’ Annabeth cried, which was kind of obvious to him at that point. ‘Oh, gods, on both sides.’ It was true. The left and right hems of his tattered shirt were sticky with blood, as if a javelin had run him through. (…) The blood stopped spreading, but he still felt like he had a hot metal curtain rod sticking through his ribs. His sword arm was heavy and weak.  (House of Hades, Chapter 29, Percy)

Each time a demon disintegrated, Percy felt a heavier sense of dread as another curse settled on him. Some were harsh and painful: a stabbing in the gut, a burning sensation like he was being blasted by a blowtorch. (House of Hades, Chapter 31, Percy)

As Percy blundered towards her, a demon pounced and sank its teeth into his thigh. Percy roared. He sliced the demon to dust, but immediately fell to his knees. His mouth burned worse than when he had swallowed the firewater of the Phlegethon. He doubled over, shuddering and retching, as a dozen fiery snakes seemed to work their way down his oesophagus. You have chosen, said the voice of the arai, the curse of Phineas … an excellent painful death. Percy tried to speak. His tongue felt like it was being microwaved. (House of Hades, Chapter 31, Percy)

And he did all of that (probably) without literal days of sleep....

Like, in Greek mythology, Aphrodite and Apollo are essentially the divine standards for feminine and youthful masculine beauty. And while Percy definitely notices that they're physically attractive (quite often, might i add, my bi king), the details he remembers most aren't really about perfect faces, but about aspects that have more to do with their personality.

With Aphrodite, he obviously describes her as stunningly beautiful, but then immediately afterwards he also says this:

She really was beautiful. And not just because she had a pretty face or anything. She believed in love so much, it was impossible not to feel giddy when she talked about it. (Titan’s Curse, Chapter 13)

Like, I love the fact that one of the things Percy considers most beautiful about the literal goddess of beauty isn't her appearance, but her genuine love for love itself.

And with Apollo, while Percy also repeatedly describes him as very handsome, the detail he keeps coming back to is specifically the way he smiles:

The driver got out, smiling. He looked about seventeen or eighteen, and for a second, I had the uneasy feeling it was Luke, my old enemy. This guy had the same sandy hair and outdoorsy good looks. But it wasn't Luke. This guy was taller, with no scar on his face like Luke's. His smile was brighter and more playful. (Titan’s Curse, Chapter 4)

Despite the battle scars, the Titan’s face was handsome and strangely familiar. Percy was pretty sure he’d never seen this guy before, but his eyes and his smile reminded Percy of someone (…) He remembered the name Leto: the mother of Apollo and Artemis. This guy koios looked vaguely familiar because he had Artemis’ cold eyes and Apollo’s smile. (House of Hades, Chapter 61, Percy)

I just think that's really endearing.

When Percy describes the two gods who literally embody ideal beauty, the qualities that leave the biggest impression on him aren't things like symmetrical features or perfect physique, but the things that reveal personality...
