Hi guys, does anybody know more about that Antiloque guy who apparently shared the urn with Patroclus and Achilles ?
I didnโt read the Iliad (yet) or any others ancient sources but I feel like we barely talk about him.

Antioque, translated to antilochus now, had is own bond between achilled and Patroclus. He was barried w/ the two after a fight (clearly not ended well) against Memnon. Along with patroclus, achilled avenged him as well.

HIIIII HII HI EVERYBODYYโก๏ธโก๏ธโก๏ธโก๏ธโก๏ธโก๏ธโก๏ธโก๏ธ i hope everyone is happy and well and ready to rejoice as it is one of the most special days in our calendar!!!! 2349 years ago if my numbers are correct alexander passed in mysterious circumstances in babylonia after two weeks of suffering that pain me to think about! all this time i've wholeheartedly believed the poisoning theory but i've actually been reading some stuff (incredible) and all i can say is that the diadochi were all bitches but i love them anyway. yes i've spent these past two weeks going to the beach to read pseudo-callisthenes' 5th century ad novel-biography and it's been tons of fun <33
real hfuers will know my thing is trying to humanize him as much as possible and steer far away from those GLORIOUS UNDEFEATED SON OF THE GODS myths (i spoke about this last year too) so reading a book mostly made up of fake facts was ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ hilarious actually ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ but also quite tragic. it's hard to find real statements esp in ancient sources since everyone was just writing whatever benefitted them the most and it's a real shame the most notable alexander anecdotes that reached the public were shit like him going to the bottom of the ocean in a crystal cage or that bucephalus ate human flesh and not his bravery and determination to push forward and always believe in himself but WHATEVER he did not have heterochromia besties get over it he was just some guy
BUT THE DRAWING!!!! this year we have a little tomb theme going on and it was about time i drew that time he and hephaestion went to patrochilles' tombs because that's CRAZYYYYYYYYY ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ the design is completely made up obviously and i mixed items from different eras to show it's been cared for for centuries: bronze age architecture and armor (should've looked for an actual description of his armor in the iliad but i remembered doing that YESTERDAY as i went to sleep and now's not the time to be correcting drawings๐๐), an archaic statue, painted friezes as a 5th century representative and paintings with floral motives and scenes (sacrifices at the pyre, fight with the river and hector), mostly inspired by the "patroclus vase" and mosaics from pella (all from the 4th century) ๐๐๐๐๐๐ this was a lot of fun to do!!!!
also i made them in tomodachi. they're the only people on my island that are not my ocs or pikmin 4 characters. they've been together for 41 days and struggling to get married #real โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ they live together in a beautiful blue temple ๐๐ (and made the lighthouse of alexandria as a little custom item. it glows at night and i LOVEEE it)

I'm here to rant and rant is what I'll do.
In the iliad, Homer SPECIFICALLY wrote about "exploring profound truths about humanity" (there are more, yet i will only cover this one for now). Meaning, these specific characters symbolize these things like hatred, hubris, and humanity. Your MEANT to hate these characters for these things.
Hating the character means you hate what they did, and your SUPPOSED to. And to understand this, you must understand the Iliad. The iliad has several different retelling like the author - in which there wasn't only one - and expresses these different things. Different preferences, like the authors, show this. It's all the same story, YES, but at the same its NOT. One example i like to pull is Achilles and many others, and for many reasons. You're meant to hate Achilles for what he did, but also UNDERSTAND is that's how that time WORKED. you can't just throw today's expectations into that time and expect it all to work out.
That's not how it is. Times WERE different then. "But that doesn't matter!" It does. The iliad was written for people to be aware, and to understand these things. But to glorify one and desicrate the other, why even bother with the iliad when YOU aren't getting the full picture.
So to say
"Hector did nothing and achilles killed him for his own selfish deeds" "fuck Achilles and Patroclus for what they did to troy & hector" okay, what about Agamemnon? What about Menelaus, or odysseus, or diomedes? You can NOT glorify one. You're picking favorites, and throwing out the moral of the iliad. Everyones a bitch. We hate everything. Everything EVERYONE did is horrible.
That's ๐the ๐moral๐. You don't just hate one to understand, or to love one, but ALL of them. Stop glorifying one and hating the other. Acknowledge that HEY, both are asseholes.

"I hate Achilles!" "I hate Hector!" "I hate Odysseus!" ALL OF THEM suck. All of them suck. You hate what they did but that shouldn't blind you enough to hate them entirely as a character because they are such interesting and well written characters. I love them all. Never catch me saying I hate a bitch. I will point out their faults but I LOVE their faults. I will only ever hate a faultless bitch.

in my interpretation, achilles is not a child of love, and he finds it to be one of his greatest flaws. thetis was taken forcefully and she considered carrying achilles a great burden. she tries to steal achilles away from mortals in fear they will do the same to him as they did to her
she tried to make herself as grotesque in appearance as possible but it did not work. the gods had told peleus sheโd try and do that, and to push past either way. it happened at nighttime as the night is a time of shadows, deception and darkness
she is filled with constant rage and sorrow because she cannot undo what has been done, and after everything she went through, her son would die either way
