#Syrian people have been migrating to #Argentina for well over 150 years 🇦🇷 long enough in fact to have made #yerbamate our own, sipping it as frequently & judiciously from traditional gourds (though ours are usually smaller) as one would back “home” in the Southern Hemisphere. 🧉 We even have our own #bombilla brands (we call them “massassat” & they’re also smaller) with unofficial #Messi sponsorships in typical Syrian bootleg fashion. 😘 Ours are usually served with a little lemon slice on the side to sanitize them between drinkers as hygiene tends to reach OCD levels in #Shami homes — though in the era of pandemics this surely isn’t something to scoff about anymore mi gente. 🍋 It’s believed that at the height of the civil war in #Syria we still managed to import over 20,000 tons of yerba mate into the country. 🌿 Ayo @thanksjoey we might just have to hit them with #TheStoryOfYerbaMate on the next album mi hermano. 🪬 #Sinsyrianly — #OmarOffendum. https://www.instagram.com/p/CmWqBN6uRMw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Allah ☝🏼 One of my favorite things about being given the opportunity to perform at D’reesha last week — aside from the gorgeous outdoor stage setup & adjacent Oxygen Park foliage where the scent of flowers is unparalleled in #Doha — was the fact that it was right around the corner from one of the most fantastically futuristic masajid (mosques) I’ve ever laid eyes on. 💫 Not long after entering the sanctuary my brother @thanksjoey & I were greeted by a beautiful gentleman of African lineage who coincidentally grew up in Virginia a couple hours away from me … At one point in our conversation he gently corrected me when using a phrase Arabs often utter innocuously & without much thought — الله طول عمره (may God extend their years) in reference to an elder we love / respect. 🌹 He advised me that it was more beneficial to say something like — الله بارك في عمره (may God put blessings in their years), for a long life is not nearly as meaningful as a blessed & meaningful one in the eyes of The One … Ironically this is something my own mother always says to me too — and he blessed me with this advice on his own 40th birthday, and less than one week before my 41st. 🤍 In fact it was a text message from her to me early on during my time in #Qatar, advising me not to miss the opportunity to visit / pray at this magnificent mosque in Education City, that ultimately brought me into company with this man. 🤲🏼 In my four decades on this Earthly plane I’ve come to understand in a deeply profound way how #Allah is indeed the very best of planners & puts us exactly where we need to be, around exactly the right people, each & every day. 🌍 الحمدلله رب العالمين https://www.instagram.com/p/CmRmIhbObEb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
